Well, i dunno where yer based, but its cheap enough to get here on the megabus (think its still £5 from edinburgh or london), and theres backpackers and all sorts of cheap accomodation if you dont mind a wee hike into town.
Worth it for the history alone - never mind the "unexplained" stuff.

If you end up looking at coming here let me know and i'll check some prices and places for you if ya want.
Edit: lived here a long time so know a lot of people still in catering and hospitality, but alos know the ghostwalkers, museum folks and used to be an archaologist here too.

darthspudius: Care to elaborate?

coxdr: There are many types of spiritual entities in this world. the ones we refer to as ghost are remnents of a human spirit. This does not mean that it is the persons soul as that is a matter of debate. It simply means some part of thereselves exist within this world. In my personal opinion there are many different types of Ghost. while some are nothing more then remnents of a persons natural energy others are more. If this is a direct connection to that persons former self or not is a matter of debate as well but they have grown to show a certain awareness. Ill be happy to elaborate more if you like or have specific questions you want to ask.
That is quite interesting. Is that a general occultist view or just your own? I'm quite interested in the subject so I am always happy to read more.

When I finally get a job I might just do that. :)

I'd love to do some legitimate reading/research on the subject, but I live at a university where such things are bad for professional reputation. =/

Its complex really. there are many branches of occultism. while there are similarites between them they all have lots of differences. The view I posted above is fairly common it is far from the only one. I follow a mix of severial different branches the main three being Daoist Occultism, Wiccan, and kabbalist though there are some elements of other traditions mixed in.

Its not so hard to find decent recources on the internet. Most books that touch the subject are old enough to not be affected by copywrite so you can find whole books easy enough.

Well, when you do feel free to shout, but unless you're planning on drinking or going in the Minster you don't need a huge wad of cash - theres a lot here that can be done for free, donations or just experienced by walking around for free.
(snickelways for instance: http://snickelways.co.uk/index.html).

A few people I've known have done a cheap weekender (tramp around town doing free stuff and just looking about during the day and a few beers at night), and then come back later on with a more defined plan and more cash.

One thing that will help you to undertsand is theres a phrase:
"When bored in York, look up - because you'll always see something new!"
Sachys finally opted for a selfie as his avatar! :D

I find them interesting but disagree with some of there mentality. I think they take crowleys words "do what thou wilt" a bit to far. While many in those associations view it as meaning that they should do whatever they want, I view it more of a waying of saying trust in your own will but that means learning control as well. Other wise they are not so bad just a little selfish for my taste :)

well i actually liked a lot of crowleys works and even he didnt always agree with the O.T.O. but he adapted quiet a lot from the kabbalah for Thelema, maybe a bit too much

My thoughts are: they don't exist. If they did, then wouldn't there be paranormal events occurring in everyday life? It's not a particularly strong argument but it's just my two-pence/cents worth.
high rated

Crowley was a always a very interesting character. I dont think he was always right but I think some of his ideas were genius. At IU while I was going they had some of his letters which where interesting to see him in a different light.

Sachys: We've had this one a few times here. To keep it short, and bearing in mind the fact you're in the UK... I live in York.
York, where the streets are full of noisy students & their brains are ghosts ;)
