Well I came back from watching the film and it was good, but I find it way overhyped.

The fights in this film where great, its everything we asked for and it delivered imo.

But everything else about this film just make me cringe most of the time.

The characters are sooo one dimensional its almost stupid, the only characters I cared about to some degree were Mako Mori (Rinko Kikuchi) and Stacker Pentecost (Idris Elba) oh and Ron Pearlmen's character was cool imo. I did not like the main protaginist he is just soooooo bland, I have seen this character so many times.

There is a lot of things I have to say that I don't like, but in the end I enjoyed it despite its flaws.

EDIT: Also massive typo mistake, I mean to say "So who went to see Pacific Rim"

One dimensional? You just described (almost) every character in BIG movies.

I was going to wait for the Bluray release to watch that one, but that new one with Matt Damon looks interesting. Was it Elysium?
If you're comparing PR to Battleship, I may wait for it to hit network TV.

I didn't, i went to see Man of Steel instead and with how expensive movie tickets are these days I limit myself to one movie every three months.

That I am some hope it would be good. I liked District 9 a lot (better than Avatar even)

As I mentioned, I haven`t seen PR yet. I only based my conclusion from what he said and what I sow in the trailer. Maybe I`m too tired, but it looked like a hack between Iron Man, Battleship, Transformers and that anime series Robotech. (well, maybe not so much from Iron Man.)

Yep, that's the one. I may have to check Elysium out in theater. But I will probably end up waiting for the bluray for it as well.

That's not really accurate. Those movies may have been fun, but they were also pretty bad. Pacific Rim isn't bad. Its not a deep movie at all. It doesn't even try to be a deep movie. If you judge the movie like a movie critic, Its not a good movie. Here's the thing though. Most big budget Sci-fi action movies try to deliver so much, but usually fall short. That's not the case with Pacific Rim. It wasn't intended to be a deep movie. It didn't try to have an amazing plot, or great characters. That's why its so much better than any other movie like it. The fight scenes are kind of the point of the movie, and it doesn't let anything get in the way of that. The plot and characters are more or less there to support that goal, not get in the way like they do in Transformers, and the newer Star Wars movies. Because of all this, Pacific Rim is not going to be what a lot of people are looking for. Its the greatest eye candy movie ever though. I came out of Avatar with very mixed feelings. It had great action and effects, but was pretty let down by the rest of the movie. It had so much hype, and not just for the pretties either. It ended up being arrogant and preachy. It clearly new it was a deep and complex movie, but it wasn't, and that made it feel way shallower than it actually was. None of that crap with Pacific Rim though. I came out of that movie totally energized. I had all the great parts of the movie to talk about, but there was nothing nothing there to be disappointed about. Disappointment comes when something fails to delver what it promised. Pacific Rim delivers exactly what it promises. Nothing more. Nothing Less.

Modern take on Power Rangers, right? ;p

I went to see "Pacific Rim-Job" but then, you all probably knew that.

Ron Perlman is just one of those people who are incapable of anything but being cool. He would have made Torvald Helmer in "A Dolls House" seem cool if he played in it.

I simply loved this movie. The big fight in the second half is easily one of the coolest things I ever saw in a theater.

And the characters are there to fulfill their respective purposes, and that's it. They're extremely simple and straightforward, as are the relationships between them. I still was invested in them, and that's more than I can say for a number of big-budget action flicks in recent years.

Seriously, people, go see this movie. It's fun.
