Tarnicus: I wonder if people think that affects me? I mean sure I notice but I take it as a compliment unless I'm coming across as an arse, and therefore would down-rep myself at a later stage :P

Grargar: Let me tell you something very laconically:
"If you are not criticized, you are not doing anything!"
mmm, even the fact of doing nothing could be criticized itself, so I'd say: "If you are not criticized, you probably don't exist at all!" :-)

I've realised that my energy is best directed to other aspects of life.

Spinorial: If you're expending energy, you're doing it wrong! This place is about relaxing and chatting with decent like-minded folk, plus the occasional primate. The only thing around here which even remotely justifies energy expenditure is one of those fancy giveaways, where people are supposed to put some effort in the entering, and you're supposed to put some effort in the judging. Even that is all meant to, ultimately, make everyone happier, so it's really a net energy gain. If you get into an argument, that's energy wasted, even if you see your points being approved and high-rated. Sometimes you need to do it all the same. We all do. But never imagine for a second that your eloquence will change the world. This is the internet, and it hasn't changed for all the decades I've been on it. Now forget this thread, forget the forum, the PMs, everything, and go play a game. Both Grimrock and Aarklash sound too cerebral, so just play some Serious Sam. Invite Munki, too - it makes for great co-op >:-)
Someone who's just entering giveaways and arguing isn't expending energy. Someone who is trying to be active and helpful is. So I think that what should be said is: you don't have to leave, you can stay here and browse the forum a little, as much as you feel comfortable with, you just don't need to go where you feel you're spending too much energy.

That said, if by "energy" he means "time", then he may be doing the right thing by leaving. If I took all the time I spend on the forum and put it into more productive things, I could probably achieve a lot. Even if I put it into content consumption, I might actually get to finish some games or the like. Or get more sleep. I mean, sure, I enjoy the forum, but I'm really spending too much time on the net doing stupid things like reading forums and reading about games in order to decide whether I want to buy them or not, knowing that in the end I'm unlikely to play them anyway, because I don't have the time I spent on these other activities.

Listen to the Vulcan - he's made of pure logic. Good to see you're reconsidering. The forum needs to keep the good people here.
I'm glad you're staying Tarnicus!! :D Every awesome person who sticks around is one more bit of awesome to the whole community! :)

We're waiting the happy announcement, Tarnicus!

I've just caught up with this thread and I'm so happy to read that you're reconsidering your decision, Tarnicus.

You have done so much to protect the generosity and integrity of the GOG community that your leaving would be so much more of a loss that just the absence of a good friend/active member/generous giver of free codes.

I only hope that GOG take on board some of your suggestions in the 'Experience' thread.
SO happy to hear that you're giving it mind to stay around, Constable.

Tarnicus: Edit 1 - Suggestions for forum changes I am reconsidering my decision purely due to the overhwelming replies I have had via PM and in this thread. I am taking time, where able given my time being a bit more limited, to find a balanced path forward where I don't say "screw you guys, I'm going home" <3

Spinorial: Good. I was just about to tell you you were being an idiot. As to your "grievances", I'll tell you what I tell every silly goose who contemplates leaving: don't mind the dicks! Seriously, just ignore them. Ignore the rep, too. Red, green, mahogany... it's all tosh!

Frankly, I see your problem right there, at the end of your first paragraph:

I've realised that my energy is best directed to other aspects of life.

A wonderful reply and exactly what I have been doing, just not with computer games :)

Today was my first day "back to the bag" after MunkiSiren's father found and erected a nice heavy punching bag in the garage. I worked mostly elbows and they are enjoyably sore. I had forgotten how much I enjoy that release of energy and the "empty mind" blissful feeling that follows. I've been letting this fitness thing that I enjoy so much fall by the wayside, and given I've got some minor surgery coming up, I'd like to be a little bit healthier again beforehand :)

Oh I'm meant to have given away some games and would actually like to put some thought into that, so Sunday looks like the next day where I can do that :)

Oh stuff it, one or two codes sent before sleep couldn't hurt...

and the lucky winners are....UNANNOUNCED :P Enjoy <3
Irony - I broke my hand last night so will be even slower getting back to this as my 1-handed typing skills are out of practise :P

Ouch. Sorry to hear that, but really, do get better rather than strain yourself more.

Everyone should regularly practice the elbow typing, just in case.

But there are always games that can be played with one hand ( Alpha Centauri, Heroes of Might and Magic series, Civilization series - well pretty much all the TBS )...So...:)
