Sitting here thinking about these games I own on Amazon, Gamersgate and GOG that are not tied to a client. I am thinking about how I need to download them all and back them up. I realize this is not something I want to do.

I am not a Steam fanboy by any means, Origin and Uplay count as clients as well. Still, the point is I used to want nothing between me and my exe but now I find myself wanting a client to manage and update my games, and to redownload rather than back up.

WHAT HAS BECOME OF ME?!?!?!?!?!
I kind of learned to use GOG as a client in itself. I get the downloader, find a game in my account, click the download button and let the installer launch by itself. The lack of auto update sucks, but that's just life in a first world country.
It would already help much if all your games where listed in the gogdownloader with the most recent version listed and a details page where you can download the extras.

You have become me.

It all gets easier from now on.

Yeah, at this point I would love the downloader to become more like a client. It doesn't have to have achivements or anything, just an interface that lets me download games, update games and launch games.

I would welcome this too. :)

You don't exactly need to do it, except maybe Gamersgate. After their recent string of pricing problems I'd recommend everyone back up their stuff from GG in case they go kaput.

I would like to see a bit more expanded functionality for the downloader though if possible. Something like a notification when a game in your library gets an update.
Desura does this perfectly.. They provide an exe download and you can also install via their client.. so in a way best of both worlds

Is this like at the end of Scanners?
Speaking, I think, for the last five gamers on Earth who choose not to use online game management clients, as long as *I* am able to download the installer and extras to my hard drive, back them up, and once downloaded install and play my games at any time without being required to connect to the internet, I could not care less how other people use GOG. They can add all the value-added services they want as long as they don't remove that option.
I like no clients.
I hope GOG will update their downloader so I could access to my game shelf directly...
Wouldn't mind something simple like letting the downloader launch games, or even auto update the installers if at all possible. As long as it's optional.
