Alternative title that I was too careful to post: "Size Matters". But I guess it's a faux pass either way.

So what I want to talk about is the size of your game collection. Not only GOG, but all the games that you own. It came to me recently that, after having a good time binge-shopping on gog and steam during the holiday sales, that I have perhaps too many games. That, coupled with my frequent desire to replay games instead of playing something new, led me to a decision to better organize my entire collection.

So I went on and created a MS Access database listing all of my games. And boy, it took me a while. I inputed not only the titles, but also the genre, theme, type, my rating and other things. I knew it would be quite a bit of work, but I started it none the less.

The rush weared off somewhere around entry 100. And turned to drag just 50 entries later. I started to fear for my collection. I felt that it is just too much! And after the 200 mark, I thought about practical problems. Of course, many of these games I have already played or otherwise won't return to, but that still leaves me with the problem of finding enough time.

My collection currently clocks at 230 games. And I have no idea when am I going to play all of them. In between university and other activities I want or need to take part of, playing through 200 games seems a bit unreasonable. I fear I might need to take an early retirement at this rate.

So, what are your thoughts? Is my collection big, or am I exaggerating my size*ahemthereitisagainahem*? Will someone come out and laugh at my collection, flaunting his own 1000+ library before my face *itjustwontstop!*? If there are any such people, how do you manage? I mean, I love playing games, but there are so many things to see, do and learn out there, I have no idea how I am going to take everything I want from life.

Sorry about the purple prose and endless double entendre.
TL;DR version: I've got 230 games. What do?

Also, if you had to make a database of your collection or similar to track your games, you must post in this thread!
I've got way more than 230 and I still want MORE.
Mine is 236 PC games long. Most bought after the digital distribution era began.

It IS too much, I haven't played quite a few of them and played less than I wanted quite a few others.

I guess that's the problem about games for too cheap. "Hey, look! I always wanted to try that game!" - Sudden buy - "Oh, crap! I don't have the proper time to play it fully".

This is particularly true to my strategy games.
very simply - identify the ones you really enjoyed. I bet it doesn't come to 230.

I've probably wasted money on near 230 games, I don't still have them. The bigger question is which of those do you still want to play, and why?
Whatever too much is, I'm already there and adding to it all the time.
I don't know how many I have, but I know it's not near the 200 mark. And that's still too many for me to be able to play any time soon. I've taken to buying only games on sale at a really good deal with the exception of a very, very few at release and still I'm collecting them too fast for my own good.
How much? This much (lifts his huge plethora of games).
I think most people have strange obsessive compulsive disorders. The way I see it is if they are not too destructive to your health or harmful to anyone else, you shouldn't worry about them too much.

But a shopping and bargain hunting OCD is a bit wasteful.

If I were to step away and monitor myself from outside of me, i would say that I enjoy shopping for and purchasing deals more so than actually sitting still and playing the things that I'm shopping for.

As prodigal as that is and as guilty as I sometimes feel, I realize that it isn't as bad as a drug or gambling addiction.
Fuck, I don't need to be reminded of this. I'm past too much and around to the point where my collection is measly compared to, say, that of a major warehouse.

Let's start with the 251 games on Steam. Sprinkle 130 something GoGs. Heat up and add the 75 odd retail PC games that do nothing but collect dust and take up space. Once boiling, carefully add 50 PS3 games. Serve hot and run the fuck away, seriously.
What is this "too much" you speak off?

Seriously I can't help myself when it comes to games. I love 'em cheap and in bulk.

On the PC, I own 134 GOG titles (I bought 90% of them in sales so I haven't really spent that much on them), 155 steam titles, about 40 gamersgate titles, about 10 Retail PC games, about 90 xbox 360 games (50/50 live and retail),and about 90 original xbox games. Plus I have a lot of other consoles too. (mainstream, except my Neo Geo Pocket Color)

Heck I recently bought a Super Nintendo (2 actually, though I'm planning to sell one), and loads of games of ebay.

I really need to go on some sort of gaming pilgrimage and actually try to play these games! XD

(I'm just the sort of person who loves to have a large variety of games available at will, and even then I'm still hungry for more. that is a true enthusiast for you! XD)

Back when EB Games still sold used PC games (i.e. when I still had a reason to go in there, ever), I had a habit of buying quite a lot of them just because they were cheap and hard to find. Many of them are still sitting on my shelves unplayed.

Once they cleared out all their used PC games, I figured that that would be the end of my impulsive purchases. Then came digital distribution, and that only made it worse.
I suppose I'm the minority in that I only have a handful of GOG titles and I tend to get rid of games I don't play via Gamestop or I just straight up toss them into the garbage. So after selling my Xbox 360, PS3, and Wii in addition to 30 games I maybe have ten to fifteen games between my computer or DS.

Just felt compelled to inform the readers there is someone on the opposite end of the spectrum where I can't stand having a gigantic dust collector and the thought of bargain hunting makes my skin crawl.

lol it's like you are my own clone, I'm in an almost exact situation as you

I have an absolutely HUGE backlog that I need to get through and yet I almost cannot pass up a good deal or a bargain of something that I would want to play sometime in the future
I'm sitting on a couple hundred games that I've gained over the years. Given that my time is not very valuable compared to money I get a lot of games and play them to death. Some are played a bit while others have a few hundred hours.

I only have a few games in my collection that haven't been touched and that is only because I bought them on sale and touching adventure games doesn't happen unless I'm feeling like dealing with the pixel hunting or indie games that frankly don't look too good but came in a bundle.

my backloggery says I have 183 games, but there's probably 10 I don't have listed yet.

I've slowed down considerably on buying so many games the last 8 months or so (though I still buy way more than I should)
