Absolute scum of a man but a champion at hide and seek.
Well im glad hes out of the picture... not sure a headshot was the best solution
Well, the photo is a fake and they'll probably never prove clearly that it was really him and a process would have been much, much better, so it's pure simple low level revenge unworthy of a civilized country and will provoke similar reactions. I don't feel much safer now.

Apart from that: he got what he deserved. Other terrorist leaders are hopefully frightened to death.

While the world is a "better place" now that he is gone, I really don't get why people are celebrating..

Maybe I'm odd, but I don't grasp the concept of celebrating murder...
photo fake
body at sea

Dispose of body then verify identity is so lame. So the idea is "don't bury and make the burial site a pilgrimage destination" but make it so that fanatical people will still believe he might be alive, that will be so much better...
Do you really think that he would have let himself get captured? Do you really think that the seal team went in there specifically to kill the man? I don't think anybody is celebrating murder. Undoubtedly a capture would have been much better, and a much greater cause for celebration, but i find it strange how many people seem to think that this was a calculated hit.
If he ever existed, he got what he deserved and this is only if it is true about the things he has done.

cheesetruncheon: Think about it, what killing Osama actually did was send a message to the rest of the world, if you fuck with innocent lives, or America, you will die.
Since when has such a threat ever been of relevance to mass murderers, fanatics, terrorists, suicide bombers? Besides, replace "America" with any other country or group that suffered great injustice from another and you have a perfect excuse to continue bloodshed and wars for all eternity.

I guess that many people think that navy seals are exceptionally well trained in shooting and should be able to aim at other body parts even in combat situations, so that accidental hits are becoming unlikely. What do you think?
He deserved it.

Not the low level terrorist but for their bosses probably yes. It's like a game. If the risk of losing your own life rises, some people will restrain from their actions. And who needs an excuse for wars and bloodsheed anyway? They just do it.

Would you have liked a legal process instead?

Yes, and sometimes it's true and other times not. It's just a saying which does not help much.

Well, it was said that he had used a woman to shield himself, and that she was also killed as a result of the shootout. But no information about wether or not Bin Laden was armed, was carrying explosives, was prepared etc. has been released. I don't know if we can expect they will, but for the time being I choose to simply trust that Obama and the seal team knew, just as well as we do, that a capture would be preferable to a kill, and that this was simply/sadly the way things worked out.

Well, it's the low level terrorists that commit the atrocities in the end. And instead of seeing their leader surrender or beg for his life they have a 'murdered martyr' to avenge now.

That's your average serial killer you're thinking about. Hardly any war is fought without backing it up with propaganda, nowhere, ever. You wouldn't get that much people to join your cause if it was only about bloodshed for its own sake.
