I have wasted soooo much time restarting because I didn't like the way my character looked. I just can't make a decent looking hero, or maybe the lighting is bad.

dammit!~
I find on character creation the random button is great, though I have been known to spam it for half an hour. Games without a random button annoy me now
all Bethesda engine's faces from Oblivion forward (incl. Fallouts) have UGLY faces... it's games like these that make me wish for just a couple of pre-made pretty (for girls) faces to choose from instead of that ugliness generator (uglynator!).
I know how you feel, my family must have made 6 different characters before they chose one. Just take respite in the fact that there's lots and lots of mods for this game. Because more choices would help, right? ;)

Just pick a cat or a lizard dude and you won't need to worry about your looks

I just made my character wear a mask... problem solved!
Haven't tried Skyrim yet, but in Morrowind and Oblivion it was exactly the same problem. Generating a good looking face was nearly impossible - especially if you played a female character.

In the end I went and downloaded some good looking faces from one of the mod sites and imported them on my existing character.

Or a bucket.
I wonder if there's an oblivion mod to make all the NPCs wear masks. It would make the game less creepy.

New Vegas can make good-looking characters though, even though it's pretty much the same engine.

Was that not Dungeon Siege 2 that had a wearable magic bucket item
Well if you want to steal from a shop in Skyrim a bucket is very handy.

I remember it being in Divine Divinity. Didn't play DS2. Seems logical as a humorous armor design, though.

So instead of a shopping list you have a bucket list?

Think ugly face ->bucket -> sneaky bastard thief with a sense of humour.

Or you want a spoiler?
Just play one of the lizard race (can't recall the name right now). They're ugly no matter what, so no worries. That's what I did.

This reminds me, I should really get back to the game, since I've bought the DLC for it but haven't gotten around to playing it...
