UPDATED: So if you read this post earlier (or if you scroll down and read it now) you’ll see that we announced that the site update was going to be tomorrow, and that the site was going to be down. We figured, given our kind of rocky history with site updates, that you guys might like to know in advance.

Good news, then! We’re giving you more advance notice than we thought. It turns out that there are a few pernicious bugs with the new GOG downloader that we need to fix, so we’re pushing back the site update until the 35th of April (to keep things still as promised as “late April”) or, if you’re determined to stick with your “Gregorian calendar,” the fifth of May.

We’re still on schedule to have a game release tomorrow, but because we’re shifting our schedule around to reflect the changes wrought by moving the site update there won’t be a game on Thursday. On the bright side, we’ll be seeing a new and improved version of an old friend back on the site Thursday, and man do we ever have a great week-long promo starting for you guys tomorrow.

Unless we have to move it or something. ;)

ORIGINAL POST: If you watched our presentation at CDP Days, you know that we have a plethora—a veritable cornucopia—of new and exciting site updates coming in late April. As late April is upon us, we'll be implementing those updates on GOG.com soon. Wednesday, to be exact.

As a result, we need to take the website down for a few hours to get all of our servers dusted and our databases lined up in rows. We're expecting the downtime to be sometime around 3AM EDT (or 7AM GMT) and should only be a few hours.

Also, because we want to encourage you to come to GOG.com and check out the new site features on Wednesday when they go live, we're holding our Tuesday game release to go out on Wednesday. So check back in at GOG.com on Wednesday (not too early, mind you) and check out the new digs!
About the new and improved thing coming to gog my guess they mean the already confirmed Oddbox

Dun Dun DUN!
Jeez, I want NO site upgrades, NO new downloader. Why do everyone want to change things that are good as they are?? Look at Facebook - it is getting worse and worse with every friggin' update. I really see no point in a retro gaming site getting updated. Everyone loves the current system.

Besides, belating a game release was bad enough, now you belate another one? Shame on you guys, shame on you.

Gog, this time I am really disappoint...

EDIT: Also, after all this screwing, I bet the promo will suck. Mark my words!

The downloader is optional. The old one needs Adobe Air and has many problems, so it's really necessary to get a new one. At the moment there is a open test, you can find a sticky thread about it here in the forum. The chances that they will release a solid and stable one are good.

With a growing customer base the site and the forum need some fixes, especially since the forum is not really bugfree (search, etc.). We will need to wait and see what they will change.

About the promo: It smells like a Oddbox promo. Other places already sold the box with all games. While some Oddworld games are already on gog they will add the missing ones from the box.and then promote all games - like selling the box. That's my guess.

My guess is Interplay promo, and it's going to last whole week, because there was no Interplay promo for over a year now. Or it may be spring sale.

I know there are many on the forum who yearn for a Interplay promo, so it would be for sure a nice move ;-) It's also fits with the old friend hint. The only question for me is what was going on with the old friend. What was the reason they missed the christmas promo?

Nah, I think we'll get Interplay promo and an old friend. Which is imo new and improved wishlist.

Or a visit from Marcin, or the return of the support ticket system.

I'm hoping for an Interplay promo plus an upgrade to one of the other games already available (or maybe even the return of one of the games that used to be available but stopped like TOCA or Colin McRae).

EDIT: If it is Interplay, I've got 10 games that will suddenly "disappear" from my wishlist...

By the way they say it, I don't think it's the Oddboxx, as that would bring two new games. Perhaps they have finally fixed Moto Racer 2.

Also hoping for Interplay promo. If it''s a 50% off on any games, I'd spend more than I ever did at once.
Where is this promo? =(
Never mind. ;)

Here it is :)
Oh, so we DID get a new game release. Sorry then for the ranting, the announcement was kinda confusing and I thought we won't get any releases until the updates are up.
