So the main story is that there were these teens who were fans of a [url=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slayers#Games]really really really old game and they were planning to kill themselves in a pact... to... get this, "to become `slayers' who would kill demons in a World War III."
Un. Freaking. Believable.
So after two of these geniuses jumped out, the remaining guys had common sense kick in and decided not to jump out of a building to do crazy stuff in the afterlife. Cue law to ban "violent" video games in multiple countries in about three months, depending on how long it takes to get a law passed these days.
I think that violent video games have been taken too seriously as of late, and I mean more than usual. I'll let this thread evolve (devolve?) into a thread about video games and law. Or not.
How about a law banning idiots from buying games? U__U
I think this has more in common with Darwinism than gaming, to be honest.

You know how many lobbyists for the rights of idiots would go insane just thinking about that?

+1, and yes please!
I remember another one incident in Singapore. Two boys were at Sentosa (an island resort), at one of the beaches. There is this bridge connecting two islands together, but they're not very far apart. Anyway, there is, as you can guess, sea water separating the islands. So these two boys walk to the middle of the bridge, look down, and one of them decided it'd be fun to jump down from the bridge.
Sounds like fun, except he didn't know how to swim.
His friend panicked, and instead of getting some appropriate help or yelling for the lifeguard, in a stroke of genius, he did something equally intelligent - he jumped down into the water to try and save his friend. All was good, except for one thing:
He didn't know how to swim either
So, both drowned. End of story. True story btw.

That was my first thought, but it has even less chance of happening than the idea I settled on. Although an "culling of idiots" would sure make good TV if it were done via a series of violent "games" of which there can never be a winner =)

...Somehow, I just don't feel inclined to see this waste of human life as an actual "loss."
Huh. I bet some people here would threaten to commit suicide or other self-destructive hijinks if that means System Shock 2 or Planescape Torment get a proper rerelease... :D
*start thinking up names*
"The Cult of The Nameless One"? "Shodan Defense Force"?

Catshade: "Shodan Defense Force"?

I had a friend (HAD is the operative word here) who wanted to create a clan with that name.

I'm not in, that'd mean I don't get to reward GOG for releasing them (or it, never cared much for the System Shock games (!!!GASP!!!))... I'd be willing to convince others to commit suicide though, as a sacrifice to the gogs.

I do think Lina is quite a nice redhead.
Anyways, where did they get the idea that there would be a World war III in the Slayers universe? I've seen the anime, I don't remember any world wars except some big wars between monsters/demons and gods/dragons ]:

You're trying to apply rational thought to people killing themselves over a game. Lost cause.

Secret Death Cult Of Monkey Island?
Lets Clear A Minefield In An Unshielded TIE Interceptor Whilst Surrounded By Traitors Squadron?
Or why not in tribute to some of the games already here?
The Vault Dweller's Certain Death Guide?
A.I.M. Arulco Adventure Holidays?
