So, what of it? I thought the core idea was revolutionary and interesting when the first title came out. It had its flaws and limitations that were ignored in favor of milking the franchise with seemingly endless numbers of expansions. Fortunately, I never really got into playing it so it didn't really affect me either way.
But with the Sims 3, it seems like the developers have really made significant changes. Personally I know I won't be playing it (only girls and girly men play the Sims), but I'd like to hear what people think of the game.
My website's review of it.

I was never really too interested in the game, mostly because I found sims personalities lacking, but this new iteration is nice
I haven´t played Sims3 enough to actually have an educated opinion on it, the little I´ve seen seems good though. I liked the first one much more than the second game, mostly because it´s less complex. It seems 3 adds reason for the complexity that 2 added.
has this one changed the 'point' of the game at all?
i found personally that the first two were pointless as you were working towards.... well, nothing at all really.
in short - if i hated the first two sims games, animal crossing and harvest moon will this game change my mind about the 'genre' ?

Not one bit
I bought just to kill people and make them drown in their own shit.

You can age/die, if that helps. :D
Lifetime Wishes are kind of a goal (i.e. become rockstar, etc)..umm..but if you hated the other games yeah, you'll probably hate this. It basically sticks to what it does best and offers a few great fundamental changes and a bunch of improvements..plus all the community stuff (huge plus).

I sold my collectors edition copy today and I am so happy. One week is enough for me to get bored from Sims games. :D
When I get a chance I think I'm going to have a go at doing this with my Sims

My Take on the Game
I liked the first Sims pretty well, but it really boiled down to meeting your sim's mundane needs well enough to get to the top of the career ladder, buy better stuff, and have lots of friends. I didn't play Sims 2, so I don't know what changed there.
With the Sims 3, there are a lot more ways to play. Having the entire town available makes big difference in how the game plays, too. It makes the game more engaging and alive.
My current guy has no job. He grows his food and sells the extra to the grocery store. He made enough to buy a partnership in the business, which gives him a nice income once a week. He married a widow, who turned out to be a neurotic perfectionist; she's really amusing. She goes to the stove several times a day and touches the top to make sure it's turned off; sometimes she brushes her teeth repeatedly; occasionally she'll freak out. She writes novels and collects royalties.
My guy paints; one nice thing about Sims 3 is that he enjoys painting, so he can do that to have fun instead of having to stop after a couple of hours to watch TV like in the original. He's improved to the point where he can use his cellphone to "memorize scene" of anything in the game and then go to his easel and "paint from memory," and that scene from the game is on the canvas when he finishes.
If you really hated the first one, you probably won't like this one. But they have done a good job of expanding past the initial "build-shop-work-chat" formula.

Hilarious! :D
Makes me excited to play again, haven't in a few days.
Great take.
Cant wait to try it out. have the collectors edition lying around.. just waiting for the lazy slobs at asus to send me my replacement computer..
Seems they have added some good stuff to Sims3, sims1 got boring to quickly by the simpleness, but it did have the only sims expansion i ever bought, making magic.
Wonder what misfits i make.. ;)

That was not a shameless plug.
