To be honest I didn't know this song was covered in the same year it was originally produced! That just shows how popular it was.

What you have linked here is not the original. The Witch Doctor was made by Ross Bagdasarian, Sr., also known by his stage name David Seville.

Yes, the David Seville, the so called adoptive father of the Chipmunks. Witch Doctor is often credited as the first Chipmunks song but sometimes also not because there is only one Chipmunk singing along David and not the whole trio.
