I'm working on a story that takes place in the west--so I'm lying to myself and pretending that Sid Meier's Railroad Tycoon and Sid Meier's Railroads are research.
When I went to check out the 2K website for the new Railroads title today I noticed that they offer the original Railroad Tycoon as a free download.
I did a search thinking someone would have mentioned this, but I couldn't find it buried in any of the threads that mentioned Railroad Tycoon. However, I did notice that more than one of you want a copy.

Important note, this download is a DOSBox based package and it includes an old version of DOSBox (0.65).

Hmm, 14.5Mb. I'm fairly certain this game is free for a reason, it's extremely old!

I didn't pay for a SarcMark, sorry forgot about them lol. It's bedtime what do you expect! I'll never bend to their will and pay $2 for the SarcMark!!!!!

It's freeware for two or three years already. I've noticed it when I was looking for that Railroads! game, near the launch of it they've released the first for free.
There's also another version called "Railroad Tycoon Deluxe", but I know zero about this one.
EDIT: I've installed it now and this is the Deluxe version; not that first, oldest version.
