TheJoe: I was very patient when I waited HALF A DAMN WEEK for the operation on my ankle. That week felt like a month.

michaelleung: Man, you couldn't just go to a private hospital or something?

Why should he when he pays tax for a health system?

How do you know he pays tax?

Have you lived in this country? You're taxed on everything. Everywhere.

No, I'm saying how do you know he, personally, pays tax for your wonderful socialist healthcare system?

Read what I said above. And while you're at it go look up stealth taxes etc in this country. You can't avoid tax here. It's more certain than death in that famous saying.
And I never called it wonderful..? I'm actually bitter about the NHS. But that's another story entirely.
I just have a very valid point that you shouldn't have to pay into a system twice.

If you work: Income tax
If you drive: Road tax and fuel duty.
Generally: Value added tax (VAT), taxes on savings.
I'm glad of the system though, it could be better but it's certainly better than all I've heard about the US system (which seems to be a case of being better the richer you are, and terrible if you're poor).

+1
You are ultimately very right. There are pros and cons to every system going :).

It's sort of like that for us in HK, with our horribly-managed health system where there have been more irresponsible drug mixups, patient mixups, and even dead babies dumped in the dumpster than anywhere I've known.
Though the Canadian helath system isn't bad.

Sorry for being poor.

That's quite alright.

Brave comment. Some of my relatives live in Canada and have very differing opinions to you over this.
I think it's quite apparent that people comment about health systems and yet the quality of care is quite a relative opinionable thing in comparison..
Perhaps this is a very redundant topic of conversation in general.

Roma people
But the term "Gypsy" and its variants tend to be used as a derogatory term to describe unwanted "travelling" peoples.
The Roma are supposedly from a part of Romania orignially, but now they are persecuted all around the world, recently in Italy and Northern Ireland.
