FraterPerdurabo: As a less reputable member of the forum, I say yes!
People with a lick of sense (which is still a lot of people on here) know those stars and numbers underneath your name mean nothing.

It's what you contribute to the discussion that counts.

mushy101: Old thread, but the point should still be discussed.

The increase in traffic and growing number of spam/crap/egotrip/politic/begging and especially pro/anti DRM tirades necessitate the move to a forums with the main forum split up.

People say the community might be split up, but the increased snippiness and arguments (not civil discussions, but arguments) can lead to worse happening.

The container is close to overflowing, better to pour it into smaller containers then risk the overflow that can create one hell of a mess.
More or less, having just one general subforum worked when I got here, but the community is bigger and somewhere in 2010 we got a lot of people that thought it was a good idea to create tons of topics about trivial stuff. Those that don't bother reading stickies before posting.

These damned necro-posters. If we don't split the community, I wish we could get old threads just plain locked if they aren't posted to in several months.

Perhaps he was not referring to his forum rep, so much as to his personal reputation?

Shh, you want to be downrepped.

And maybe this?: http://www.gog.com/en/wishlist/site/more_mods_on_the_forum
Already voted a few weeks ago, but added the comment just then. Thanks for the thread as well.
Contrary to what I posted nearly a year ago, it'd probably be best to have a few different subforums. I'm just spitballing here, but here's a few subforum ideas:

Politics forum
DRM discussion forum
Why that last game really doesn't belong on GOG forum
Modern games are trash forum
Steam is evil forum (may overlap with the DRM discussion forum)

gameon: and people talking about death.....lovely.
The only talk of death I can find is the word necro, that's a forum term for resurrecting a post that had 'died'. In this case the thread was 10 months ago, and was considered long gone by most of us. So it's commonly referred to as necro-ing a thread (as in bringing it back to a state of undeath). It's not actually any insult to you, other than it's generally avoided practice unless there's good reason.

hedwards: Yeah, but the flip side is that you get tons of motion quickly burying topics which are of general interest under a flood of those stupid "When will game X" get here and various off topic nonsense that should really have it's own subforum

It's come up and people suggest that I'm being unreasonable because clearly a forum without a proper search where everybody does their posting in one specific subforum isn't hard to keep track of.

But yeah, all this BS of everything being posted in the same forum needs to stop.
True. While an inconvenience, spliting is the best way to go, i mean, the user count is not dropping, and it won't get any easier. Perhaps a better notification about new topics on the main forum page would help, a full page just about 'new posts' in general/off topic/games owned/games selected subforums. Yeah, i'd really like to have just one page pinned.;P

Well, the second one is a Withnail and I quote (good film, well worth watching). No idea what you mean by the first link.

I see no mention of death.

Eh, if GR can bounce back from -200 then anyone can come back, if one bothered.

gameon: Oh come on.....i posted a link to the peace thread to show that there were arguments and comments about death on it.

http://www.gog.com/en/forum/general/the_peace_thread/post2
http://www.gog.com/en/forum/general/the_peace_thread/post6
http://www.gog.com/en/forum/general/the_peace_thread/post16

All three posts about dying.

Now you say i am referring to this "should the forum be split up thread".

Are you trolling?
Sorry, I missed the point that you were posting in this thread, complaining about another thread. I assumed it was this thread, and didn't look at the title when I followed the post link.

Still - chill out a bit. I don't troll, I sometimes antagonise, but it's usually more creative than that. If I offend it is by mistake.
I missed this thread. Oops.

Anyway, I made this:

Honestly, I'm not even sure why we have rep points here as they're basically just a vector for trolling.
Yeah, I'd be in favor of a split.
