It's gotten to be kind of a pain to keep track of threads when one forum basically contains the entire realm of non-game specific discussion And even there it sometimes bleeds over like when FO:NV came out and it didn't really belong in the FO series subforum.

I definitely support the idea of a handful on non-game-specific sub-forums. Hell, I'd personally dig a Linux sub-forum to round up all the little tidbits of info regarding running certain games, while we asking for things. :)

Just put several new forums in there. Including one for forum games / competitions as well. The news posts definitely need their own forum.

Right now there are tons of posts in General that are of limited appeal and just spam up the only discussion forum, but there really isn't any where else for them to go. So, you get the dozens of "what game is this" threads and the other threads which are legitimate, but ill placed in such a busy forum.
But, more seriously, I think we should string people up by their thumbs that necro posts.

You can't split a forum without hurting the community, that much is guaranteed. The question is, is this forum big enough for such a split to be necessary? I personally don't think it is right now, but if it continues to grow it will eventually be necessary. For now, having news posts in it's own section will be enough.

If people are too lazy to go to the other subforum, that's a pretty good indication of what value they place on those posts in the first place.
Sure, if you have dozens of subfora that gets ridiculous, but all this begging the question about splits is just absurd.

It's come up and people suggest that I'm being unreasonable because clearly a forum without a proper search where everybody does their posting in one specific subforum isn't hard to keep track of.
But yeah, all this BS of everything being posted in the same forum needs to stop.

Old thread, but the point should still be discussed.
The increase in traffic and growing number of spam/crap/egotrip/politic/begging and especially pro/anti DRM tirades necessitate the move to a forums with the main forum split up.
People say the community might be split up, but the increased snippiness and arguments (not civil discussions, but arguments) can lead to worse happening.
The container is close to overflowing, better to pour it into smaller containers then risk the overflow that can create one hell of a mess.
