I have games on disc I no longer play. I'd like to give them away. But, I'm a cheapskate and poor and don't want to pay to ship them.

So, should I host a giveaway? Would you pay for shipping to get a free game? How does that question come across?

If it sounds like it's in bad taste or there's a rule against it or something, let me know and I'll just put the games back in a drawer or sell them as a lot on ebay or something.

Here are possible names for the giveaway:

The YOU PAY SHIPPING giveaway
The Nothing is really free giveaway
The Infomercial giveaway (just pay shipping)
The "I'm a cheapskate" giveaway
The "Should this really be a called a giveaway?" giveaway
The conditional tangible giveaway
giveaways are always awesome, why not?
I like the previous-to-last option
(The "Should this really be a called a giveaway?" giveaway)

But since I'm in Europe and you're in the US, shipping would be a bit high for me. So I won't participate. Still, some people from your area might be interested. What games are we talking about?
I like Infomercial giveaway
These are the games that I'd put in the giveaway:

Sacrifice
Black & White
DIG
The Even More Incredible Machine
Armed and Dangerous
Half-Life & Half-Life Blue Shift
Indiana Jones and the Emperor's Tomb
Screamer
Motocross Mania
Redline Racer
Motocross Madness
Motocross Madness 2
Heavy Gear 2

hudfreegamer: So, should I host a giveaway?
I'd lean "no."

First, this is a very global community on this forum and what would effectively be a region-locked giveaway feels somehow out-of-line with the whole point of GOG. Second, despite that fact that it looks like a substantial majority of games gifted on these forums are Steam keys from bundles, I feel like you should gift GOG games while here on GOG. Thirdly, it's not *really* a giveaway if someone has to pay for the games in one way or another; that's not to say that you shouldn't offer to ship the games to someone who wants them.

I just sort of think that you shouldn't call it a giveaway. Call a spade a spade, that sort of thing.

I've considered doing this myself, but the shipping cost is questionable, as you're already giving your games away, you don't want to lose money on top of it.

I would suggest to offer all at once, as shipping for all of them together will be significantly less than each game separately.

The way I see it is like this: If the person doesn't want to pay shipping, they probably don't really want them anyway.

If I put an ad on Craigslist to give something away and say that the "buyer" simply needs to come get it, then it's still being given away. Or it's like eBay with a price of shipping-only. I don't see this as anything different.

Now, do they come with boxes and manuals? : )

No boxes. Only have manuals for:
Indiana Jones
Armed and Dangerous
Half-Life & Half-Life Blue Shift

No cd cases for:
Incredible Machine
Redline Racer
Dig

Unless someone expresses interest here, I think I'll put them up on ebay.
Others have done similar GA's here on GOG - I guess it couldn't hurt to try but I'd check with UPS to see how much it would cost to ship just to give the "winner" an idea. Failing that, ebay is another option that might net you a few bucks ;-)

hudfreegamer: Blank & White
If that's Black and White, its rather tempting. Of the games I'm familiar with, they are a good games.

Yes, it's Black and White. Disclaimer: I wasn't able to get it to work on Windows XP. It installed, but when I tried to run it the video was messed up (probably incompatibility with new video drivers) and it had a hard time reading from the disc to play the first cutscene. It felt like it was buffering every five seconds as the sound would play a bit, pause, play a bit, etc.

You'll probably need an older computer to play it.

Seems like I'll have to pass then. Good luck with your giveaway/sale!
