I really like Netflix, though the selection we get is rather poor compared to the US store(we have to use the Danish version for some reason). However I watch something on Netflix basically very single day and for the price they have around these parts that is certainly worth it.

Like some have said, try the free trial and see what you think for yourself.

Personally, I love Netflix. I get frustrated sometimes with content like everyone, but I can honestly say that there is always something I want to watch (or re-watch) available. Consider the messenger though, I'm a huge movie buff (and enjoy watching a TV series at my own pace), so a lot of the items in my queue are exactly the type of stuff that people complain about in the first place. One man's junk is another man's treasure.

Right now I'm watching the first season of Ultimate Spider-Man. I'd read so many bad things about it that I almost didn't even give it a try, but there it was available to stream, so I gave it a go and *really* like it. It kinda has that Teen Titans goofiness, but toned down to the point that I can handle it (blasphemy, I know, but I never could get into Teen Titans). But, to me, that's what Netflix is about, discovering things that you might not have normally because of the utter convenience of streaming availability.

One word about the free trial: If you will let the trial expire without doing anything they will charge you. Netflix uses an opt out system, not an opt in system.

That's more or less standard practice for American companies. If you're lucky they'll let you turn off the auto-renew without cancelling.

I've got the ability to create new credit card numbers on my credit card, so I usually set the limit to be insufficient to allow it to pay for the subscription extension.

Yes you should. Just know that their streaming selection is extremely limited. I have unlimited streaming, but I only receive 1 movie at a time. We pay about $19 a month for the service. If you have a Nintendo Wii, download the Netflix app as it's free to stream (watch) as many programs that are available on their service as opposed to X-box live network or the Playstation network.

The selection you see is what Netflix thinks you might be interested in. Its nowhere near the complete list of available programs. Use the website, or the search function.

The Netflix app isn't behind a pay wall on PSN either, only on X-Box.

And I'm not personally interested in most of those shows. What's more when I do find a show on Netflix that I'm interested in, there are weird rules about how many I'm allowed to watch in a short period of time. I see one maybe two out of that list which are worth watching.

What's more, I can never count on a movie or show being available at any particular time. Last Halloween I was really in the mood for a good horror film and it took me at least an hour to find one as all the ones I wanted to see weren't available.

It might not be as obvious since you don't have access to their DVD library, but the bottom line is that the selection blows comparatively speaking.
I think that it's probably available via Google Chromecast, but I haven't looked into that. Even if you need an HDMI to composite converger, it's still going to be cheaper than the XBox version, apparently.

Don't they offer one free month to test it out, like they do here?

Too bad the Netflix movie and TV series selection here is very poor compared to US Netflix. EDIT: Ok I saw some other Europeons complaining about the poor Netflix selection as well. Here quite a few of the series and movies in Netflix have been shown already on free TV channels too, so really the only reason to get Netflix would be the ability to look at them in your own pace without needing to record them either, and seeing them in HD.

I cant say. There isn't really a browse selection option on the website I have. The main page is a bunch of different rows of stuff in different genres. That's just a selection of whats available. To see the whole list you have to use the pop-up menu you get when you hover your mouse over the "Watch Instantly" button, then select a genre. I just checked what is available in the TV shows section, and there are 1477 different entries. To be fare, that is a little misleading because TV specials are counted as unique entries instead of being part of a series. For example, each National Geographic documentary is listed as a separate show. Its not too misleading though. Its not like the majority of the list is all one-offs.

Also I kinda dislike the current video streaming technology, which seems to lock you to lower quality video just because you don't happen to have ultra-fast internet connection. Even Youtube seems to do this nowadays, ie. it only buffers a tiny bit of a video in advance. At least I was unable to watch the Mirror's Edge 2 trailer in full 1080p HD without biiig pauses every 10 seconds, just because I was trying to watch it over a mobile 3G connection on a PC.

I presume this is due to some stupid fear of people being able to copy the buffered video, if it was buffered too much locally on the viewer's device?

I'd prefer the option to watch a video/movie at 1080p, even if it means I first have to wait 15-30 minutes for it to buffer enough of it to my device, if I don't have a 10+ Mbps connection just at the moment.

I think it has to do with bandwidth costs. In the US, Netflix is one of the largest consumers of bandwidth we have. And I'm sure the costs associated with buffering data is substantial.

OTOH, they have 4 dots for quality and never does it ever go below 2, doesn't matter how many times it has to buffer, so go figure.
