I mean we all know steam has massive sales during the summer so why not have sales during some other season? It would create less competition for both services as neither would compete when GOG and steam have sales during different dates

Well, there is a summer sale, a halloween sale, a winter sale and so on...
I don´t think that it´s a real competition at all, and GOG already avoids bringing sales AFTER Steam did one ;)

IS there ever a time when there isn't a sale of some sort? This place is better than Wal-Mart! It's one of the reasons I hang out here so much, at any given time a Blue is liable to pop up with some big ass discount. I own 158 games from GOG and I bet I've only paid full price for ten or fifteen of them.
Same as TinyE, last time I counted was at 110, and I'm pretty sure I bought them all on sale (although one could argue with some of the package deals, I've paid full price for some and also got a few games I'll never touch for free).

GOG had their full summer sale before Steam even started this year. So they are already doing so. Trying to fully outdo steam would be kind of pointless since they specials every weekend at minimum.

Yes, GOG-Sales are just awesome! Also got something like your game-count! (on my game storage account)
And I´m not able to use PayPal all the time (gogogo GOG, support Paysafecards!), so I would have bought maybe twice as many games if it would be easierer to buy them...
Yeah it's literally impossible for GOG to compete with Steam on price (at least for me) so doing sales before Steam makes sense. My bank charges like £1.50 for paying in USD so if the sale price of a game is £1.50 on both Steam and GOG, I'd be paying double for it on GOG even though they are the same price.
I joined 10 months ago. Didn't know about sales only the weekly promos.
The winter sale was a big surprise for me. Sadly i couldn't buy any games than because i was surprised.
There are many of us who can't spend money at any given moment. So i think knowing that a sale starts
before summer, during winter is a very big plus.

same - stupid when apparently the transactions are done in the UK too!
Steam and GOG aren't in competition.
I think it's good that GOG had their sale before Steam. That way people have a little more to spend before Steam possibly depletes their game budget.

I think GoG could get a bit more creative with their sales. The bundles aren't always a good deal.

Pay though Paypal and you can avoid that.
How are GOG and Steam in competition? There isn't many games sold here that are also on Steam. Different gaming audience really.

Though I'm sure there's plenty of mainstream gamers on GOG forums who'd love to see GOG go into competition with Steam and start releasing most new games here, even though it's a terrible idea.

i can't recall the term, but it's all about creating the illusion that you are an equal of the larger market power. For example, moving their summer sale to after Steams would create the (correct) perception that GOG is less than Steam.
