GameRager: Are you just anti-violence in general or just keeping them away from it due to their age? Just curious......
Due to the later ... I played shooters for years starting with doom and ended with unreal tournament - then I got boring with all the thousand shooters that don't really introduced new things but just better graphics. So, I loved playing shooters but my children are too small for this (5 and 9) - I try to avoid it at least until they became teenagers.

Well that seems ok. So ever try the munchers series or games by MECC with them? Museum Madness is a fun little adventure game that's kid appropriate.

Thanks for the hints, but we are not english native speakers (my children only speak german and the youngest can't read at all). So, I prefer games that don't need reading skills (except some start/quit/etc. buttons). So racing games are perfect and jump&run platformers and puzzle games without text (like the great COGS or hex-a-pop).

I remember the times (C64, Amiga) where there are thousands of jump&run games. I bought Amiga forever CD but this age is not very interesting for today's children that are used to high resolution 3D games (like FlatOut ;-).

Yes, they love SuperTuxKart (Super MArio Kart clone), but of course they don't want to play the same games forever. So, I bought 1NSANE from GOG and they loved it. Then I bought FlatOut from GOG and they loved it even more because of the destructable environment and good graphics.

They also like physics games like Crayon Physics, tool box Algodoo, And Yet it moves, ... but they are sometimes a bit too complicated for them. I would love to see Portal on GOG. And of course much more platformers (also 2D).

Have to say, I very much think that Portal (and for that matter, any of Valve's games) will never come to GOG as Valve have their own digital distribution system in the form of Steam.
5 new games since my last post => 5 games of shooting or slashing ... this is what I mean!

I am happy with the last Humble Indie Bundles that contain at least some fun and innovative games where you don't have to destroy or kill something/someone. But GOG is about good OLD games and I remember many old games on other genres - especially jump&run and adventure. Come on, GOG! Release more non-shooting/-killing games, please!

Have your kids ever tried a Breakout game? Wizorb is still $1 today over at Indievania (might change tomorrow), not an old game, but oldschool, and just as DRM-free as the games from GOG. Granted, it's all about destroying blocks and killing monsters, but more in the typical jump 'n' run way like Mario Bros., pretty harmless (poof - they're gone!). It can be challenging but the concept should be easy to grasp even for small children.

outcast1: Why do you release more and more shoot/fight action games/RPGs and nothing else? Just look at the last "New releases": disaappointing "Wuperfrgo" and World Rally Fever" and everything else is just violent action shooting/slaying.

Where are the platformers, the smart adventures, the racing games, logic games, peaceful games? I see GOG.com just following all the current game manufacturers: release the millionth shooter because these games are the only real thing.

Just examples of games I would like to see on GOG.com: World of Goo, Osmos, Crayon Physics, Cogs, Black&White, Flatout2, etc.
So on Good OLD Games... you want new indie games and a racing game... rather than... racing games... mk

We are talking about the game where your giant cow would kill your own villagers with its own poop, right?

It's because that's what many like and what sells. ;)

Good times, good times.

I am ashamed to admit it, but my only regret about that game was that I never figured out how to train my cow to do that to enemy soldiers on purpose -.-

Thing is, if you look at the ratio of violent/peaceful games, it's going to be heavily weighted to the violent side. GOG just shows this on a smaller level.

Honestly, there are few if any games that couldn't somehow be called "violent."
