I can think of plenty that have DRM, even if it's just a disc check. Those can be troublesome for operating systems released after the game and are one of the most common reasons I need to crack a game beyond "oh, bloody hell, it's Starforce".

GOG always tries to vary it's catalogue and titles
Remember when they got the rights to the Atari Hasbro catalogue? Some people were actually complaining that there were TOO MANY RPG's on the front page
It all depends on the publisher, really

Miaghstir: Also a couple other, non-racing, games, one for licensing issues with some music, ObsCure, was it? And I don't know what the reason was for Hostile Waters.
Navagon: Yeah, Obscure had a song by some semi-punk band. I don't know why they couldn't just replace it but there you go. Hostile Waters is just a GOG mystery. I think it's just another IP that the ailing Interplay lost the right to sell. Navagon

Navagon: Compared to what? MOO3? Empire Earth 3? Any one of GOG's other crappy second sequels? There never really was a point in GOG's history where it was like the Criterion Collection of games. Regardless, I can think of plenty of FPS that qualify as great, never mind good.
hedwards: I suppose, I guess more what I was getting at was that the ones actually worth having are frequently available elsewhere without DRM and in some cases at the same price point. Are there really that many FPS games worth having here that are with signed publishers that aren't available DRM free elsewhere? I mean even Steam offers most of those games without any more DRM than you find here.

1) If you think that GOG only releases "shoot/fight action games/RPGs" (wait...RPGs aren't games?), then you've been sniffing one too many glue sticks.
2) Every alternative game you listed is an indie title. Part from Flatout 2 and Black&White, which are hardly nonviolent.
3) So is this really what we've been reduced to? GOG does so many things right that we have to resort to complaining about how violent their releases are?

GameRager: What about people who want all their games on GOG for completion's or convenience's sake? Or what about those that don't want to buy on Steam and would rather buy such games from GOG? Plus(as has been stated on GOG for a long time now) any game added helps(if even just a bit) to get more games here and more companies signed with GOG......so it's a win win to add such games imo.
They should take a back seat to those who can't get the games at all or can't get them DRM free if all other things are equal. I'd rank that just above those people that want to buy just the special additions in terms of people that GOG ought to be placating. They have a limited budget and I'd much rather they spend it on games that can't be had and ones that can't be had DRM free, than ones like Shadow Warrior or Terminal Velocity which are both inexpensive and DRM free already.

You must not be playing the same ones that I am. Pretty all the DOS FPS games are going to be distributed DRM free at this point, assuming that they are being sold. If they aren't, well then obviously that's a good reason to consider them for inclusion here. If they won't run because of a disc check that's probably also a good reason. But, really if you own the disc it's a semantic difference between you cracking it and GOG cracking it. It's questionable if it's even illegal in the US. As for the UK, I have absolutely no clue. I don't crack my games because I'd rather not encourage that sort of bad behavior, but if it's an old game the DMCA prohibitions don't even really apply.

I know this is GOG, but not every game I play is DOS era. :P As far as game mechanics go, FPS have improved considerably since then. Of course there are a lot of games in the sub genre that are trying to be little more than interactive movies (CoD and its copycats), but you can't be looking very far if you can't find some good, modern FPS.

Well, damn near all the ones from the '96-2000ish period are going to be running in DOS at least optionally. Get much beyond that and the games get a lot less good and a lot less old. But, that's just me, I miss the days before Halo irreparably damaged the Genre.

Navagon: Well then, like I said, you're not looking very far and clearly not very interested in doing so.
It's a perspective, anything post-Halo isn't what I would personally consider old, and those games ought to be running without any trouble on modern hardware. I've tried a few of them and quite frankly, I've yet to find one that was actually as good as the FPS games from the '90s.
