Watch the trailer.
For $20, even tho it's MP only, if my PC could even DREAM of running it, it would be an AUTOMATIC purchase.
I would buy this for $20 just to reward innovation. The game looks beautiful, and seems to capture the isolation and majesty of space better than any other game.

michaelleung: Is there sound? Like, I have this thing in my head where since it's in space, there's no sound when you fire your weapon and all that.

GOOD point! Imagine this game with only radio chatter and on-board diagnostic computers breaking the silence....I smell a great mod coming!
*Sigh* I really wish I could run this, I would be ALL over it. Maybe if a demo comes out, I can at least try it on the lowest settings.

Gundato: I liked Advent Rising, if only because it might very well be the last story Orson Scott Card ever worked on where the hero was not (at one point) a boy genius who saved the world by proving he was smarter than everyone (and, in general, ignoring all but the most basic of strategy).
Don't get me wrong, I loved Ender's Game (and enjoyed the Shadow books until Bean and Petra started boinking. That just seemed weird and creepy), but the man has run out of stories. Case in point: He did an (Ultimate) Iron Man comic. It was Ender's Game, with trace levels of alcohol and powered armor instead of spandex onesies.
Hopefully Empire will not involve children. At all. When Card avoids Children, he writes fun stories (The Worthing Saga, even if it was the percursor to his retelling of The Book of Mormon for Homecoming).

Try "The Tales of Alvin maker". If you don't mind a healthy dose of subliminal Mormon conversion propaganda, it's a fantastic alternate history of the US. I read the first two and really enjoyed them.

It reminded me at first of a select few Heavy Gear II levels that took place IN SPACE!, as well as Crysis' Core level and the simulated space combat bits in Ender's Game.
The concept is definitely enticing, and I'm already running DX10-class hardware on Windows 7 (previously Vista) already, so it's an option to me. The question is whether my 8800 GT will be enough.
This reminds me of portions of some of my game concepts, the main difference being a grappling hook that could zip you toward an object if need be. Here, you're relying entirely on suit thrusters to get from point A to point B-not necessarily a bad thing, though.
Other than that, everything looks promising. They even got the sound direction right for once, given that this is IN SPACE! and all.
Usually I can tell from trailers if I want a game, but I'm going to need to see more to make a decision on this one. I want it to be great... we'll see.

Now there's a game that needs to be made. Card has already worked a bit on Shadow Complex.

Should be made for all platforms, not just an exclusive downloadable title. :(

I've heard them consider it for PC. That would be really nice.

Well... no. Card didn't do much in Shadow Complex either. He didn't even do much of the story either, he only lent his IP to the game. I doubt a true Ender's Game game will ever exist.

anjohl:

you two are in luck, the RPS article mentions that you only hear a sound if your suit simulates it for a good reason, or if your body is vibrated by a blast or something.

REALLY?!?! Oh man, oh man, oh man. I *have* to get a new PC. THIS will be *my* FPS> I am not much of a multiplayer gamer, but I would just eat this up.
Update: new gameplay trailer today. The game will be released november 4. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dd-2dZMDAGw&hd=1

That's what I'd do as far as having sound in space goes, and it actually seems to be a common Hand Wave in harder sci-fi settings.
Also, I've read that you can sometimes shut down your suit for whatever reason, in which case the sound simulation obviously wouldn't work.
That new trailer has all but sold me on the game now...only I don't have money, and the mention of an 8800 GT as a MINIMUM requirement whereas my other components fit the recommended specs is kind of worrisome. Still, I'm sticking with it until Fermi/GT300.

Same here man. I'll have to wait and buy a DX11 rig.
Click 'more info' in that last youtube link. It's explained there. ;)

Yeah....I need a new PC for this $20 game....I guess I will have to be satisfied with Star Trek DAC. Which looks good.

The game is 50% off this week, buy it if you have a high-end PC. ;)
