Even if he/she claims to hail from the US, surely, thelovebat cannot claim to be so ignorant and poor on general education as to not quite understand what this Zoe Quinn thread was about.

Against girl gamers I take it, and against few more by .. convenient ignorance of sorts.

What say you?

And shame on you for linking to the Wikipedia page about it without understanding that users like Ryulong have used it as their own personal battleground. Because of that, it doesn't reflect reality so much as an extreme anti-GG point of view. You would know this if you had bothered to actually research instead of assuming the first thing you agree with is automatically correct. It's called confirmation bias.

You claim GamerGate is sexist in the same breath that you reveal your own prejudices about Americans.

Yeah... you're a troll or an idiot.

"Anti GG" - this would refer to what?

I actually thought the ZQ thread was dodgy from the start - and stating so, but also reserved judgement - before the telling LinkedIn ref. Reputable enough a source, or..?

Your confirmation bias is most likely hostility towers female gamers. Unless you care to elaborate, as I did, just now?

Really? And which number of them would encourage your sister, or maybe a cousin, etc, to embrace gaming, actually? If the Zoe Quinn thread, I shall be delighted - and prithee tell them to PM me for sure! These be the brave ones, methinks! ;-)

My sisters *are* gamers. It's telling of *your* bias that you think women need to be "encouraged" to "embrace gaming".

I've already explained this to you. Quit playing stupid.

There's a reason most teachers will tell you not to rely on Wikipedia. As for this particular article, it's outright misleading in many instances:

"Following Quinn's release of chat and discussion logs she got from 4chan, Ars Technica and The Daily Dot suggested the #NotYourShield hashtag was manufactured on 4chan and that many of those posting under #NotYourShield were sockpuppet accounts impersonating women and minorities."

Watch this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tzwGIHUCtjU

The mentioned chat logs were stripped of their context and thoroughly debunked months ago, by the way. Of course, you wouldn't know that by the Wikipedia entry, nor would you know about the many conflicts of interest and instances of questionable behavior that were discovered.

The idea that I have to defend myself from an automatic assumption of hostility against women is absurd, but here's something I wrote not so long ago that has some proof via a Wayback Machine snapshot of my site that my earliest gaming memories involve women.

Getting pretty sick of having accusations hurled at me because people like you are too lazy to actually research the topic at hand, by the way.
What say I? Well, just re-read the entire first post by thelovebat and I'm having difficulty - and by that I mean it's been nigh-on-impossible - finding anything "against girl gamers" in that post.
What say me?

"Thou shalt do no evil, for eternity and beyond. Go, and repent, my children."

Thus spoke Zarathustra.

I was referring to the Quinn brouhaha in particular, but now that you ask: my sister plays video games, so does my niece, so do all my ex-girlfriends, in fact, so does my mother. They did not need any "encouragement", they are intelligent, independent people capable of making their own decisions on what they like or don't like. Also, I am fairly certain that no amount of threads on a gaming forum will turn a non-gamer into a gamer.

Hi TStael - sadly, GamerGate has a strong following on this site, so criticism gets downvoted a lot.

GamerGate is a curious mix of consumer-based "Gamer" culture, wailing man-child martyrdom and reactionary extremism. But I like that its shittyness is so glarring obvious that I don't have to do the whole look-at-both-sides routine: Anyone who supports GamerGate is an idiot, and that's all there is to it.

I have collected a few GamerGate related articles, if of interest:
