Hello all,

Can somebody confirm for me or deny that Shadowrun Returns will be available at GOG?

Thanks.

Microsoft insists on DRM, which means no GOG release. There was a big stink about this when the developers revealed they screwed up and did the Kickstarter prior to actually getting rights to the game. When they got the rights, it was with the stipulation DRM is used, and only backers will get DRM-free copies via the publishers, no one else.

I don't think Shadowrun Returns has been confirmed or denied on GOG. It has been stated however that a DRM-Free copy of the game will not be able to work with user-made content.
Somewhere in this very long thread it was said that the game won't be on GOG.
But GOG has been known to surprise us from time to time, but we won't know until it shows up in the catalog.

Gaaah! Thanks for answers, however they don´t make me happy. I am one of slacker-backers and only after I backed the game I learned about this whole DRM-compulsory mess. I would give anything to be able to acquire DRM-free copy of this game.

My Steam key just arrived today, but I don´t wanna use it.

Then, I think I read this somewhere, you'll have no access to official expansions/dlcs without Steam... (along with no user-made, as mentioned)

I got a refund when I found out about that. While I do question the competence of a company that gets funding for a game that they don't have licensing for and without any clue about the distribution channels, they were polite enough about giving me my money back without any lip.

Sort of. The only DLC that's guranteed to be DRM free is the stuff they announced during the campaign. Any ones in the future might only be available through Steam. And any mods that make use of assets from Steam DLC, will only be available to people using the Steam version.

Considering that there was a question about even getting greenlit, it was quite the surprise to find out that Steam would be the only place to buy games after the campaign ended.

You see, I don´t understand why they insist on DRM, game would sell on GOG just fine. And people like me would be willing to give money for DRM-free version, which is superior.

Not being able to have DLC´s and all that jazz wouldn´t be such a problem, as I suppose fans would make them "compatible" or sooner or later there would be a complete edition (I sitll hope there will be), which would solve this issue.

Don´t get my wrong, I´m glad I backed the game, but I don´t like the circumstances, under which it is published. The reason why I don´t wanna use up my Steam key is I am hoping that somebody would be willing to swap or trade for DRM-free version of the game. But I suppose no one is such a fool to do that.

Same and I feel exactly the same way. Its hard to be too angry with them.

If you backed, they're supposed to be giving you a DRM free copy of the game. It's just that DLC beyond the ones covered won't be DRM free and they aren't able to sell DRM free copies to new comers.

The reason that I got the refund was that I thought I was encouraging the industry to try and sell things without DRM. The game looked cool, but I didn't like the cartoonishness of the graphics and them not selling the game DRM-free was the last straw.

I don't know. I was mostly angry that they didn't disclose that they hadn't signed a license since it was strongly implied that they had. I was also angry that they had waited so long before coming clean about it.

That frustrates me even more because of what it means for classic Microsoft titles.
Got my Steam key, not sure if I'm using it. Will download the drm-free version, add it to Steam library as non-steam game, and rename it to Shadowrun Returns: Backer Edition.

Surely as a backer you should get a DRM-free download too? Or are you just a regular pre-orderer?

I was mostly disappointed about those things, but disappointed is "mom" for angry...
I'm planning to pick this up on Steam by release day, so if anyone has an unwanted key and wants to work out a trade of some sort, send me a PM. I'll be picking it up either way, whether by trade or Steam purchase, just figured I'd offer. :) I'll be out most of tomorrow but will otherwise be around to chat :)
