Nah, I wouldn't want a refund to be honest. The game is definitely worth $6. I just think it's a bit dishonest of Devolver to go through the whole process of releasing it on GOG to only then release for free a few months later and undermine GOG's business.

Then again, I know GOG has done a few freebies of games that are available on Steam. Empire Earth was one, Fallout another. That being said, Empire Earth isn't on Steam, and Fallout had already been on Steam for three years when they did the promo.

The Steam key thing was originally a limited time offer. Those people who got the key could keep it forever.

Then the app got hacked, and they were desperately trying to find a solution, which presented itself in the form of the F2P option on Steam. Because people would then lose the games if the offer expired, they've kept it there and announced that fact on Twitter.

It's just a matter of timing really. I expect it'll appear on Facebook soon.

Yeah, I was just kidding about that. I really don't care either. I'm glad to have it on my GOG shelf, complete and ready to play. That works for me at this point but I do share your view of the way Devolver handled this.

Besides, I bet the GOG version has a much nicer looking icon. :D

The game sells very well here... it's high up on bestselling list. And few months later you can get it for free. Guess it's just business.

That sounds like a big mistake on their part. If they plan to do it up like Duke Nukem, it'll be worth buying.

The game just came out of a promo, thus the high place in the front page's top sellers. Check the catalogue for proper position, not sure how high it is.

Botanica release fiasco anyone ?

I can just imagine the chaos and shouting that's going on at Devolver at the moment. I've worked in a PR office and still do work in PR, and I can assure you that when there's an unexpected incident like this, one hand never knows what the other one is doing. It devolves (hur hur) into blame games and people running around like headless chickens.

What's happening and what PR are told to say are usually two different things. Sometimes it's dishonesty, more often it's because nobody knows what the fuck is happening. I suspect the latter.

Just installed the Steam version of Shadow Warrior "Classic" and discovered the following:

Generic, boring, ugly, Steam icon for Mac OS X version of the game. I like cool looking game icons in my Launchpad, not generic Steam icons because they are too lazy and lame to do it right for us.

It is now confirmed at least for Mac users that the GOG version is clearly superior!

It's in top 150, i think it's quite strong number for 7 months old release.

I find it harder and harder to think of Devolver Digital as a decent company.

I don't support such disloyal behaviour to the customers and business partners. I will not buy a single game with Devolver name anywhere on it at any point in the future unless it's under 1 dollar. That's how much their work is worth for me now.
