Spinorial: Am I alone in finding the new younger Lo Wang annoying (the voice and delivery, mostly)?
YU SO WEI CISS !

Shinook: I was aware it was going to be different from prior interviews, but this is a completely different game short of swords and character names. I guess I expected them to change the humor and tone some, but this doesn't even seem close to being in line with the first game.

darthspudius: You won't know that until you play it. You should not be so quick to judge. Leave that attitude to 13 yr old console kids.
Fair enough.

No, you aren't.

That really put me off too. That said, I need the gameplay video without the context of the annoying guy playing. I have a feeling I may be less annoyed without his constant idiotic commentary.
I thought he was fine. Obviously tastes differ.

Shinook: I watched most of the gameplay video and it makes me wonder if the devs ever played the first Shadow Warrior or just made a ninja game and branded it SW.

I have no doubt the game will be fun, but this is nothing like the original SW.
It doesn't need to be. The original SW was no masterpiece. FWH will make a better game.

Doesn't look good, thoughts:
- This doesn't look like SW, looks like someone made a Kill Bill video game and named it SW.
- Too small areas with small amount of enemies.
- Sprinting rather than default fast movement (like Build engine games).
- Terrible FOV.
- They are trying to make it "grimdark" instead of funny, no politically incorrect humor etc.
Another preview, this one from TotalBiscuit.

TB observes the game doesn't have much to do with the the original SW in the way ROTT was faithful to the original ROTT. Says level design is a bit of a problem with some linearity, but overall enjoys the game as a modern FPS (compares it to Painkiller) with a bit of SW flavor.

SovietSharkey: I understand why they toned it down but the wackyness will be missed
I don't. The modern tendency to water everything down as to not offend anyone is ironically offensive. I don't want to play Mr Milquetoast with a sword.

Fixed that for you.

I was left with a much better impression of the game from TB.
Ok, so it isn't a remake after all? More like a sequel or a spiritual successor?

Dunno, maybe that is even a good thing (as in: I can consider this "remake" as a completely new game, not just the same old game with prettier graphics). It doesn't take anything away from the original game, either way.
A new trailer is out:

Coming out Sept. 26, GOG.com release (re)confirmed for those who didn't know.

FOV is adjustable. Areas will open up in spots if Hard Reset is any indication, but no they won't be huge. There is no sprint, but a dash by double tapping movement key. They have one of the lead writers from CDPR on the team so I'm fine with how the writing will turn out. I saw nothing grimdark about it, personally. We'll just have to wait and see how this scores on the Wang-o-meter. :P

Crosmando: ...
Go and watch the TB's video. The first vid posted here has really discouraged me - cinematic every minute, very linear level design etc. Turns out it gets much better pretty fast. It's still not really Shadow Warrior, seems to be more in the vein of Painkiller... But I'm not complaining.
The remake is actually looking awesome to me. My only concern is that the new Lo Wang is way less remarkable than the original.

The original had a more distinctive look, the new one looks kind of like a generic thug. He also had a more interesting voice (even though he couldn't speak correctly).

Finally, the original game story was about Lo Wang being so incredibly badass that Zilla risked his entire empire and demon army in an effort to destroy him... and failed.

The new one seems a bit too concerned about Zilla killing him for not delivering the mystical "Sword of the MacGuffins".
Yes I watched that RPS video and it does look pretty cool. I don't like the health-regen power mid-combat though, it should just be medkits.

Also the writing is actually pretty good for a FPS, I loved that interaction in the car, lol.
