That one stumped me for a day or two working on my nephews computer. His computer was running really slow, I thought he had a virus and was getting ready to reload when I found the solution to the Windows Update problem. Thankfully, the slowness was just caused by a lot of malware and not a virus.

Just because they both support 1080p doesn't mean they have the same timings and refresh rate. If you look at your desktop refresh rate it is probably 60hz, while your TV will most likely show 56Hz. I've had a PC work perfectly on one 1080p HDTV and not another 1080p HDTV set. Some manufacturers either don't like to conform to specifications or just their shitty components will not support them, probably the latter.

And I would do the remove drivers clean install option, shutdown the computer, remove the old cards, install the new cards, turn on the computer, and then install the drivers (double check nvidia's website that newer drivers haven't come out since your last update).

Your other question about the one card being number one and the other two is beyond my expertise. I do not have an SLI rig. The last and only one I had was back when the Geforce 7800's came out about 5 years ago.

Edit: Geforce 7800 came out in 2005, so eight years ago, plus the two I used that desktop for.
Had that problem with optical out as well. It's not a problem with the stereo, but with your PC. For some unknown reason PC sound card manufacturers do not allow you to run 5.1 surround sound over the optical out. The only other option you would have besides HDMI is the if you had the 5.1 analog out. Which I did for awhile until I upgraded my receiver for one that had HDMI ports.

Okay, I think you're onto something here, though I have no idea what to do about it.

The issue I mentioned was with the gaming rig I had originally in the den, and then moved into my room/office when the one in there developed what I thought was a motherboard problem. THAT computer is now in the den, laying open with both sides removed, as I have been troubleshooting, etc. That is also the one that has two Nvidia 560ti's in it, and the Ivy Bridge CPU, and is the one I purchased the two 760's for.

I just tried to play Civ V on THAT one in the den hooked up to said HD TV (through the receiver) and on THAT one, the intro played fine, but the game, when it came up, had a funny blue outline and constantly flashed, thus making me wonder about your timing remark.

FTR, this 42 inch Vizio supposedly has a 420Hz refresh rate, though the only refresh rate that shows up as an option in Windows is 60Hz.

Not really, besides buying another TV, there is no other option that I know of to get it to work correctly. You could try to drop down to 720p if Windows allows you to do that, or trying using another HDMI port and see if the game looks correct with the changes. Check your TV's manual to see if a PC should only be connected to HDMI2 or 3 instead of what you have it connected to.
Perhaps an HDMI splitter will help, but I doubt it.

Edit: from the old days of graphics cards, I seem to remember ATI cards were better at displaying to a TV. But I doubt that still applies today, and that would cost more than a new TV anyway.

Another thought, have you tried displaying to the TV without the extra graphics card. I seem to remember hearing there were a lot of problems with SLI displaying correctly. That was probably from a year ago, but it's worth a shot and will only cost you a little troubleshooting time.

Actually, the adaptors for going from HDMI to Display port, or diplay port to HDMI shouldn't be a problem except for the cost of purchasing. It was a real pain when you had to convert a DVI only card to HDMI, as there is no sound on the DVI port.
I still wish they would have kept the HDMI ports on the card, because I don't want to use Display Port. HDMI is good enough for me, and I don't need a specialized port for my computer. I am sure there are some 760's from other manufacturers that still have at least one HDMI port.

What brand? As far as I'm aware the base specs for the nvidia 760s include one HDMI port.

EVGA. That's all I've ever used, as I've been happy ever since my first EVGA purchase (many, many video cards ago). They're superclocked with the special "ACX Cooling" though I wouldn't think that would matter as to which outputs are on the back. I'll find a link. Back in a few seconds.

Yeah, I've gone EVGA for my last half dozen or so cards. That link you provided shows an HDMI port though.Just above the left hand DVI-I port.

At least they finally got rid of that shitty VGA port. I thought we would be seeing that into the next two decades. Next up for becoming obsolete, DVI port I no longer need you.

Oh boy, I am a moron.

I looked at that card and the only outputs I saw were two labeled DVI.

But it turns out there's TWO other outputs on it, a Display Port and an HDMI. They were covered with this hard black plastic and not labeled and I just thought they were some part of the card, not outputs. You pull them off and voila, an HDMI and a Display Port output.

I'm going to go bang my head against the wall afterall.

LOL - no worries. I actually did the exact same thing once. Couldn't find the port on my card because it had a plastic cover over it. Glad you got it sorted though. Now install those puppies and get that rig rolling.
