GameRager: eBay then presides/arbitrates the case and usually gives it to the buyer and you're forced to refund them.

lowyhong: But how do they force you?
They arbitrate and you agree to that when you sign up....making it legal for them to do so.

What if the mail is registered, to show that the buyer has received the mail? Will that immediately void their claim?
They can claim Item Not as Described.

Ebay's a shady place.
I have never received more spam / scam from emails / phone calls than I have from selling an item on Craigslist . Never more for me . . . =)

Damn so buyer always wins?

I ran into a few conflicts with some sellers too, but things (mostly) worked out because I never failed to keep my communication lines open. According to them, what makes them most uptight is the definite possibility of buyers being absolute tools without a reasonable cause, often down-rating without even bothering to message them first.

Id push you in the direction of craigs list. If your set on ebay I would send Foxhack (IIRC) a message and see if he would act as a third party as he has built a good reputation on ebay. (have him advertise it and pass the money on to you but you do shipping) or if you know & TRUST someone nearer to you that has a good Ebay reputation.

But I have to echo what has been said, a lot of Buyers on ebay will shaft you get the game, say it was never delivered get the money back through a ticket with paypal leaving you without a game and no money.
Thanks for the advice mate. I'll wait and see if Foxhack has anything to say about this. I just need to make this one sale (my eBay rating is about 25, though all are buyer-ratings, so I don't really care if I get a bad one or not).
I think eBay is pretty much going the way of the dodo. It's a haven of thieves, crooks and con artists. It's also well known as a fence's paradise. Occasionally as a buyer you'll be able to find the odd good deal, but for PC gamers it's for the most part either bargain bin rubbish being sold at ridiculous prices, used Steam games or older games being sold at absolutely extortionate prices (Final Fantasy 9 - starting price €79).

I find it particular hilarious seeing 12 or 13 auctions for the same game, all of them with "RARE" in the title. Sellers will often create a second account to bid on their own wares, and will elevate the price artificially and bear the cost to avoid too low a price.

Buyers are just as dishonest, but the very anti-seller system these days is all thanks to the den of thieves mentality prevalent among sellers there. I had plenty of problems with revenge feedback until they stopped the buyer feedback system (which is pretty pointless anyway if you're only buying), misadvertised items and - the all time classic - the claim that it's a "private" auction so there's no right to return or guarantee (despite eBay's claims to the contrary)
