Yep, I liked them too but have gone to more mature RPGs later on.

The best jrpgs ever made are Star Ocean and Tales of Phantasia on SNES and they weren't even released in my country, not even the PSX versions afaik.

I am still into RPGs when I got the time (only for 1 RPG a year sadly) and my favourites today are Fallout 1+2 (with HD-mod), Gothic 1+2, Inquisitor, Planescape: Torment, etc...
Western RPGs are more mature, complex and give you way more freedom.

Well, while tactical RPGs are one of my favourite genre, I'll admit I've only started playing them on the PSX. So I guess I was wrong about the chronology.

I liked Shining Force and its sequel when I played them in the Genesis Bundle, but I prefer games like FFT and Tactics Ogre, partly because I like having a darker political plot in games like these rather than the standard "chosen one and his friends battle evil" present in Shining Force.

Sometimes I like a bit of turn-based jRPG combat, but I hate anything "cute" and even a fun battle mechanic can't override the hatred I have for cuteness.

I played Morrowind and Oblivion on and off for 4 years each before I finished the main quest because I just started walking and forged my own adventure. Plus, these games actually have blood, adult themes and arch-mage NPCs that don't giggle "tee hee hee" during dialogue 0_o

Well, if blood and adult themes are what defines a good game, then i suppose GTA V and COD are among the best games ever made.

A bit off topic but I'm wondering how it is that SEGA is still not on GOG when they've been on DotEmu for so long. It seems that DotEmu is only selling ROMs and not any actual PC game, so I guess that could be a reason, but I don't know if it's a very convincing one, right now I can't see why GOG would want to be stuck with just offering games originally released on PC.

Beyond Oasis, Phantasy Star IV, and Shining Force II are excellent games.

I prefer the GBA remake of the first Shining Force, but the original is good as well.

Regional pricing perhaps?

Seriously, i want you to explain why blood and adult themes = better games. For me it doesn't make any sense at all, but maybe you can convince me. I'm still waiting for it. I perfectly understand not liking JRPGs art style, it's a pretty subjective thing, but i want to know why having blood and adult themes is so important.

Oh, c'mon, personal insults now? You can do better than that. Take a deep breath and count to ten, i can feel your rage from here.

Are we talking about the same games? Bad Writing? Embarrasing storylines? Which games exactly did you play? Easy combat? Really? Are you kidding me? JRPGs are known for being difficult, especially earlier ones. You can't really say that games like Etrian Odyssey, SMT, Persona, Xenogears, Disgaea and Front Mission have easy combat. In fact, one of the issues i have with some JRPGs is that they require grinding because of how hard combat becomes later in the game. Bad writing and embarrasing storylines? Chrono Trigger, Persona, SMT, Xenogears, Suidoken 2, Nier, Earthbound, Panzer Dragoon Saga and many others say hello (even some FF are well written).

The only thing i can agree with is that JRPGs are usually linear (not always) and that they tend to have horrible voice acting (all japanese games in general suffer from the voice acting problem, especially older games). The voice acting issue has a pretty obvious reason, developers and publishers back then didn't have as much money to spend on hiring decent actors and translators. But i really can't see why this makes these games worse. The first RE and the PS1 Megaman X games are notorious for the horrible voice acting and they're still considered to be masterpieces.

And look at how ridiculous your argument is. You're trying to generalize a whole fucking genre. It's like saying that FPSes suck because COD and Battlefield are crap. It's ridiculous, to say the least. You've played one or two games and say: "JRPGs suck, hur durr". That's Crosmando level of logic and argumentation skills right there.

From my point of view as a neutral observer, you're the one who started with the personal insults, and you're the only one I feel any kind of rage from.

Again, you're the one who pushed him into trying to verbalize why he didn't like JRPGs any more. Then you take issue with his reasons.

Read my post properly. Many people have shared their dislike for JRPGs and i didn't question them. What i'm questioning is what growing up has to do with disliking JRPGs. There's a huge difference there.
