So, I have played video games for quite a long time. Consequentially, I occasionally have an urge to play something from my childhood (The 90s)... and given just how long ago that was, often can't remember the name of the game.

It was top down. You controlled a squad of four cyborgs or robots. You shot other robots. You could upgrade yourself between missions.... and that's all I've got. Thankfully there weren't too many isometric squad based games back then, so I'm hoping someone knows it.

What I know it wasn't
-Syndicate. I loved the old syndicate, and actually still remember it's name.

-Shadowrun. It didn't have nearly as many RPG elements, and you were far more 'borg then the main character in any of those games. Plus you started with the squad, you didn't have to find them.

If you have a rough date, and confirm it was PC you are talking about (it sounds like it), that might help someone. It kind of triggered the faintest memory, but I can't quite remember.
I'm not sure about the perspective, but UBIK might be worth checking.

Was the game turn-based or real-time, tile-based or smooth movement?

So it wasn't really top down, it was isometric, yes? DOS game? Real-time? Any other details? Would your squad move together like in Syndicate or Cannon Fodder or did you have to control your guys separately?

Didn`t have time to search deeply, could it be this one by any chance?

It doesn't totally fit your description (and it's not on PC), but this was the first thing I thought of: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kGJi5Na7I4E
Mech Commander?

One of the BattleMech Games?
Sounds like Laser Squad
Abomination?
It was Total Mayhem! That's it! As soon as I saw the loading screen I knew it ^.^ Thank you!
Was it BattleTech ?

Total Mayhem, huh... the game's box art was featured on the cover of one issue of German gaming mag PC Joker. I never knew which game it belonged to until today.
