Just thought I'd do a heads up here for those that missed it....
The Tinsel engine for discworld 1&2 has been added to scummvm development branches for a while. There are apparently discussions going on to get Discworld released as freeware similar to BASS, Queen, Lure and Drascula... no news on the second game though and teh third uses a different engine (and outside of scumm's remit as it is a 3D game sort of).
If you want to play your old discworld 1&2 cds but had problems getting it to run on your newer systems nicely give the daily build (or I can link you my SVN trunk build compilied) a try :)
It's really nice having these older games supported again - and ported to scumm to work on a silly number of devices is the icing on the cake :)
The files you need to copy from your CDs are listed here:

Fantastic news. Thanks for sharing :-)
Ooh must have a look at this & look for my discworld CDs.
Shame it can't support Noir, thats my favourite of the lot
I have Discworld on CD, it's one of the easier games to setup in DOSbpx, unless you want a location other than C:\DISCWLD.CD
Brilliant game though, all of you: go grab it.
The second game being released and supported would be awesome. It's been pretty much impossible to find a copy, without it being dodgy, scratched, or stupidly expensive. So I hope for news in that area.
i have a copy lying around somewhere back at my parents house... never played the first one though.
I remember my old PC used to crash 90% of the time when playing the intro to DE2... full screen animation was way beyond it's power at that time. :-o
Actually, I have noir lying around here... almost installed it a few days back to try it, but i got stuck in morrowind again.
The 2nd one wasn't 3d was it? Though i guess it was an early directx game.

Sorry I meant noir being semi-3D.... discworld 2 is 2D.
I managed to get noir working on an XP system but it was a real pain - you need to locate the no cd 'patch' for it since the securom used at the time is incompatible with XP. Haven't played it yet - working my way through discworld one and two to test on scumm ready for the 0.14 release...
I remember getting discworld 2 for christmas as a kid... our only computer was in my dad's office - he brought it home with him for christmas so I could play it :) An old P75 if I recall correctly...
Others on the forums/mailing lists have confirmed DW1&2 are fully completeable on scummvm. It would have been enable fo rteh current release (0.13) - indeed the engine was completed ready for it but the discussions with regards to releasing it freeware are still ongoing and until they get the final yes it won't be formally supported (hopefully won't be long... someone has a improved sound pack for DW1 similar to the simon teh sorcerer sound update)
its weird, there are several games people keep saying are incompatible with XP that i've installed and played without problems. Maybe its cos I have a lot of Sold Out versions of old games... maybe they patch them or something.
Haven't tried Noir yet, but fingers crossed it'll be the same...
soulgrindr, I've found the same thing. I have original discs for several games that GOG has released (Giants, Evolva, Fallout 1 & 2, Sacrifice) and they all work on XP without any fuss. I even loaded Sacrifice this past weekend on 32 bit Vista Ultimate and it worked without any problems.

They did patch a lot of them it's true so Sold Out stuff tends to be pretty useful.... same with the LucasArts packs (I have a grim, dig, full throttle, sam&max pack here) but if you have originals it can be... a trial at times. At least from the time that DRM started to be added (early securom and safedisc in particular can be a pain).
I installed Noir fine on our PCs here but it would crash immediately and refuse to run until the securom protection was removed. This was an original Noir purchased at release,
