Ok first off, I'm running Windows 7 Home x64, and I understand that it can have some issues with compatibility however i was wondering if it is a known issue for games to have issues fitting. I am playing Age of Wonders that I just downloaded and the left side, bottom, and right sides are all cut off a bit to where i cant see the resources at the bottom and barely can see the menu and Turn buttons.

I also have Heroes of Might and Magic 3 that i downloaded too and it is working fine.

Any help would be great! I really love this game an would like to enjoy it to the fullest i can!

Thanks!

Hey, Thunderfists! I hope you get some help. To start with, it would really help if you mentioned what kind of computer you're running it on (laptop, netbook, desktop) and what your native desktop screen resolution is set at. Also, what kind of video card do you have installed?
Im running a desktop here are the Video specs

GeForce 8800 GT
1920x1080 resolution (ive tried compatibility mode with 640x480)

the monitor is a 32" tv set to 16:9

Im not experiencing any fitting issues with any other programs, even as i said other games from this website

Never mind I solved it, I altered the in game screen resolution settings up and it made the edges come into display.

EDIT: Sorry, I saw you solved it. Disregard my post then.

I actually experienced a lot of scaling issues, which, I suspect, are similar in nature to yours in nature (though my problem is that the image is waaaaay smaller than the available space...it's like a small picture with a 10-20cm border on all four sides).
Unfortunately, I couldn't solve these problems, and only know that they are somhow related to the lack of scaling support in nvidia's win7 64bit display driver. This is an issue they have failed to solve for at least half a year now...

On the other hand, maybe it's the monitor's problem, which is all more easier to fix: Try fiddling with the monitor's screen settings (with the buttons on the monitor itself, i mean).

Otherwise, maybe try playing around with the game's internal resolution (if it has such options) and your desktop resolution at the same time, see if different combinations make any kind of difference.

I've got an vidia card and win 7 64 bit and nvidia's scaling works fine. Do you connect your monitor to your computer with a dvi or hdmi cable or is it an old vga monitor?
I've had a similar problems with some games (off the top of my head, Port Royale and Divine Divinity) where the right side of the screen seems to have a small slice chopped off and...

Whoa, wait, I changed videocards a while back and I unistalled both games before that, so maybe a little tweaking with the new one might work...

Ok now, this is curious. I installed port royale and still have the same issue. I have a small widescreen LG monitor (Flatron w1943c) at 1360x768 on a desktop running Win XP and an nVidia 9400 GT card. I reinstalled Port Royale and noticed the same screen issues as i had before (and just noticed I have the same issues with Warlords battlecry 3) and even when I changed resolutions in game (none reached 1360x768) or changed my monitor's to 1024x768, the problem remained. I then took a screenshot, hoping to post it here showing you how it looked and when I pasted it to Photoshop, the screenshot was NOT lopped off like the screen itself was in game. I take it my machine sees the whole thing, but it doesn't fit it on the screen properly.

And sorry, Thunderfists for suddenly hijacking your thread, but since you already solved your issue, i might as well use it to solve a similar problem without cluttering the forum.

This might be an obvious question, but did you try pressing the "auto" button on your monitor? It could just be something like it not having centred the image properly...

AHA! I didn't find an "auto" setting but noticed I have it misaligned... to the left, not the right. Putting all the values on 50 doesn't seem to center the image, however, futzing with these controls made me realize each game has it's own screen centering values. While Windows looks centered on certain values, the moment I run any of the old, pre wide screen monitor games, the settings on the monitor change from those I already have set on windows and they're totally misaligned. The moment I close the game, the settings change back to the ones i have on Windows. This means I can play with monitor settings for each game (and they seem to remember the setting changes even after I close the game) effectively solving the issue, so eyeball, you get a...

Dammit, this is what happens when you hijack someone else's thread. You only get a measly +1 to your post. :)

Screens usually store those values for each resolution, so each time you use a resolution (and refresh rate?) you haven't already fixed, you'll have to redo the settings.

Eh, solved credit doesn't matter to me anyway. Most LCD monitors do have some kind of auto alignment option somewhere so it might be worth searching for it under another name. I'm glad to have helped though!

I'm using the same resolution for everything. The only resolution changes I make are in game. The settings the monitor stores however, are those involving horizontal and vertical alignment and some sort of horizontal shrinking. I thought these settings were for Windows only and kind of universal to everything running on the computer, but nope, turns out you can have different alignment settings for different programs.

i haven't restarted the computer though. I don't know if everything will keep once I do.

Eyeball, I could do with an automatic setting and will look into it..

DVI. The problem doesn't always show up, it's quite rare, in fact, so that's why I haven't reverted back to an older driver. GOG games for example do scale, but keep aspect ratio, so there are only two black bars at the left and right of the screen. I can live with that.
It's definitely the driver's doing, since I uninstalled the actual ona and had windows replace it with the "built in" nvidia driver. Problem disappeard. Unfortunately, I nedd the new drivers for increased performance.

The scaling (or rather lack thereof) is indeed a feature of your graphics driver. Go into your driver's control panel, there should be an option to just scale everything to full screen (if that is what you should wish). Most games will end up stretched... but if that's what you want...
Slightly off-topic, but I want to reveal my stupidity to the entire userbase of GOG and ask away. Does using the HDMI cable instead of the oldskool VGA one increase the strain of GPU card? Does it increase it's warmth level?

Please bear with me on this one, I'm being serious with that question. I've been thinking of putting a hdmi cable between my monitor and computer, but want to check that before I do that. And yes, they both have hdmi-slots :)

No, there is no such option in the current (and all recent) version(s) of the nvidia driver (for win7 64 bit). I'm quite sure of it, and it's a known issue.
