Zeewolf: If you're deeply offended when someone who don't know you or your mother says something nasty about her, you just need to get over yourself. Simple as that. Otherwise you're the one with a problem, not them.

Tribal instincts are still trying to tell us to smash somebody's face in when we've been deeply offended, but luckily we have this thing called the frontal lobe which will generate impulses that oversteer those coming from the deeper subconscious.
That is, most of us have. I'm not convinced about 'tb87670' given his strong urges towards 'beating people to death, literally with my hands'.
Additionally, many violent criminals and serial killers have reduced functionality in the frontal lobe, rendering them incapable of some of the basic higher thought processes that stop the common man from killing their neighbour over petty disputes or jealousy.

Taking the high road is only part of being civilized. People should still have the decency to act properly in the first place.

Leftie's started getting the "I told you so" stance and gained so much support Liberals are now running the country and of course things are going downhill as to be expected when that happens. I'm not being biased, just being objective from a distant viewpoint though now everyone will call me a righty.

And when exactly has this Liberal governance happened? In case you hadn't noticed, aside from two terms of Clinton and a half term of Obama, it's been all Republicans in the White House since 1980.

He did say 'since vietnam'. I suppose you could ask him to narrow it down, since Vietnam lasted over a decade. However, when I think of Vietnam, I think of the late sixties, since that is when LBJ escalated the conflict.
The LBJ administration is also where I would point, if I were trying to find the start of the decline in today's values. The Great Society that LBJ proposed is anything but. It grew government hand-outs considerably, thus starting the ball rolling for populace more dependent on the largess of government. This is turn made folks less responsible for their own lives, since there was always that safety net.
Then, Carter created the Dept of Education. Ugh. That has systematically dumbed down the school system, year after year, by catering to the lowest common denominator. It is no longer possible to really fail someone in this country, as it might make them feel bad. Even worse, Obama just changed the 'No Child Left Behind' legislation (I know Bush created it, i am not a fan of his either) to base funding for schools off the graduation rate, instead of test scores. How can anyone believe this won't just lead to more ill-taught kids getting graduated?
Slowly, since the 60s, the government has been insinuating itself more and more into American lives. More and more we are giving up our freedoms to the government. With freedoms, so goes our responsibility to take care of ourselves. I think this has damaged our collective psyche in this country; why bother giving shit about other people (or yourself for that matter), if you don't even feel responsible for yourself.
Don't worry, tb, if they call you 'righty', they'll probably call me 'asshole' :). I am actually about as libertarian as they come, but most folks don't like my views. I don't care how folks want to lead their lives, as long as they don't expect me to pay for their mistakes and/or bail them out if they go broke. No more Social Security, no more Medicare, no more Welfare, then we can get started on getting rid of about 3/4 of the Federal Departments (start with Education and Indian Affairs).
I'll paraphrase Margaret Thatcher: Socialism is a fine way to govern, until the government runs out of other people's money.

Cicero would state that 'Back in the old days, the Greeks used to stamp down on that kind of thing. They recognised the potential deadliness of the plague, how it would rot the minds of its citizens with pernicious manias and ideas, and then, all at once, bring about a citys total collapse.'
Anyone who thinks that society falling into the shitter is a recent thing had better get in line.

Funny that you bring up Greece, since they ran out of 'other people's money' in their own country, and had to start shopping around Europe for more donors. I think Greece is the poster child of what happens when a populace stops being responsible for themselves and relies overmuch on a government. Spain, Portugal, Ireland, and Italy are not far behind Greece either (those in finance call the five of them the PIIGS, collectively).
As to your point about the rise and fall of civilizations; sure, it has happened before. That is why someone famous (can't recall who, off hand) said, paraphrased, that we must 'all be students of history, else we will be doomed to repeat it." It has been rather common throughout history that countries/civilizations/cultures have declined into decadence and finally ceased to exist (the holy Roman Empire being the most notable example, with ancient Greece, ancient Egypt, Sodom and Gomorrah, Babylon, and France (in the 18th Century other prime examples). I see the same thing occurring in Western countries now.

At best the jury thinks you're crazy and you get sent to a mental institution for a few years and then get to visit a psychologist every week after you get out. At worst they think you're a crazed psychopath and you end up bunking with a 300lb rapist who's got a swastika tattooed on his face.
In the context of Heinlein's story, The quote works fine. But for the real world it should be changed to "A armed society is a safe society," There's a link between concealed carry and reduced crime rates, but the vast majority of the people who carry are responsible folks who won't shoot somebody for being impolite.

Funnily enough, Heinlein's "Stranger in a Strange Land" helped popularize polyamory, free love and a fair amount of other hippie stuff, It's even been referred to as "The unofficial hippie bible."

They smack talk in games or over internet with a security layer that keeps them safe and getting away with such behavior and it's bugging the hell out of me. This can get a little long so bear with me I'm on cough medicine making me feel good because of a wheeze I caught.
Everyone has ran into these people, not all of them are kids by the way. The thing that gets me is in real life I would and could beat these people to death, literally with my hands, for saying the stuff they do about my mother yet they say these things and nothing happens. Even their parents don't step in. Is there any real way to deal with these people, as ignoring them is impossible for the most part because even the most hardened person will crack at some point and start a "flame".
Now, people over internet bugging me is minor. But this attitude transfers outside to real life and makes for a nasty new bunch of kids. that is the main problem. Bad parenting is part of it, after the baby boomers a ton of extra-marital births began and sloppy parenting of the average family as we see it today has taken root. But another issue at hand is how we treat others. My father has told me back in the older days he could talk to people on street, nowadays it's a no-no because many of them are peckerheads. I've experimented with this and out of 20 tries to talk to someone on the street twice I was told to "shut up" after just saying "hi" without any tone and with a smile. This is nearly the same thing that happens when you join a server and on all talk type "hi all" and half the time one person will respond with "STFU" "Shut up" "---- off" or any other phrase that's offensive on CSS, BF2142, and BF: BC2. I don't want to get started on XBox Live, it's a part of life on Live that half the server wants to desecrate your mother if you believe what they say and the reason I'm not going to buy a 360.

For the topic at hand. Every new generation does something different from the last. People 10 years younger than me feel to like they're a different race with their own different language. This is universal if not rooted out. And by rooting out I mean literally beat it out of them. Children must do things differently from their parents. It's in our genes. Now there are of course exceptions.
Then if you manage to suppress that "renegade" youth, you will be left with equilibrium. Nothing goes forward and nothing backwards. No new Media or innovations cause "We do things my way" And my way never progresses.
So let them scream their lungs out with "f''k, c''t and s''t.". They need show that they are different from us. Reality will bite their asses soon enough.

Well, that is highly debatable.
From the wiki article about the cities:
"The historical existence of Sodom and Gomorrah is still in dispute by archaeologists."
I believe that even if they are just a parable made up by herders, it has a nugget of truth in there someplace. Most parables do have a bases in fact, after all.

This is more than just 'doing things differently', this is a total loss of a feeling of responsibility for one's actions. Like I said in a previous post, I don't care how people live their lives, as long as they take responsibility for any mistakes they make along the way. I get tired of doing the right thing and being responsible with my life and finances, just to be punished for it by having to bail out my less mature and more myopic neighbors. There is a reason more and more people are calling the current generation the 'Entitlement Generation'

I would have to say that i can get used to the smack talk. But maybe that's the problem.
At some point people just got used to talk like that. Once in a while i catch myself saying "lol" when somethings funny. That's horrible! And meanwhile some people just gets used to the ethics of the internet. Unable to understand why they might have hurt some peoples feelings, for to them its 'normal'.
But as were now apparently playing the blame game, i'm going to point my finger the direction people in general. Its the natural evolution of society. A shame it feels more like degeneration of social relationships...

Yeah I like this, people are calling me crazy and say I need help because I don't like people tossing vulgarities at me. And furthermore I'm a savage because I want to bash these people if I saw them in real life when they say these things at me. I say anyone who wants to take that and do nothing about it is a bit nuts. Or nutless. Either way about it adjusting to this type culture and allowing it is not what I'm going to do. One person won't be able to do a single thing but I hope 'leading by example' will work in the long run and more people do the same.
EDIT: I had some quotes but they told me they quoted posts that didn't exist...........

Dmn. I had written enormous post which I edited down so it wouldn't sound like preaching...
Point of it was that great, although not so great cause they all fell, civilizations crumble from the fact that it's residents, the original ones, tend to feel superior from the ones conquered. After some time the said resident start feel superior even over their neighbors. This cause internal disputes and all of a sudden some outside force sweeps them all away.
Does this happen to the civilizations now? We'll see.
I too would like to kick some btards arse when the little bugger is teabagging me and there's nothing I can do to stop it. Cause the said bagger has more free time than I so he can play those games more than me and thus become better in them than me.
Also it just hit me, like ton of manure to some windmill, that the said bugger propably wants be looked like an "adult". Respected and such. Why would he then use such language? Cause he knows that the "BIG&COOL" people talk like that. Bugger just multiplies this by the power of three* and let's it loose. The result is usually hilarious, if the said bugger isn't teabagging you at the moment.
*just a simple Charmed reference. Would teabag any them.

If you saw them in the street when they say these things to you? But you don't see these pricks in real life do you? It's not real life, its a part of online culture, especially gaming. And you know what? A lot of those punks who talk shit online will one day grow up and become much nicer human beings.
You don't have to adjust to anything and you dont have to put up with any abuse, what you can do is maybe just play online with your mates or take a break from the whole thing for awhile. Getting angry is natural, but getting yourself so consumed with rage by what some kid has said online is not good for you or gonna make you feel better.

I'm afraid to say that some of the people i know have trouble adjusting to adult life because of their ethics. They talk like street punks fresh from the gutter (or some other, smarter algorithm). And some people at my university talks like this "B R B I have two go 2 sec".
The online way of chatting and communicating is so obviously reflecting upon people, even in their everyday life.
Edit: And some people are just mean by nature.
