Aaron86: But did Ocarina of Time have a spaceship and Hotel California?
Well, I don't know about Hotel California, but...

Gazoinks: Reading this really makes me wish there was a classic Fallout-style isometric Sci-fi RPG. Anyone want to make one? :P
These guys & gals might be on to something
Not sci-fi, but the rest is there. Turnbased & isometric.

A strangely neglected genre. You'd think the success of KotOR and Mass Effect would have brought up multiple copycats or spiritual followers, but no. Even ME2 went from clean space opera style to a more dark, scarred & edgy cover based shooter style.

There was such a lack of material, that I went and played Space Siege.
Not an awesome game, not unforgettable. But it was OK and fun while it lasted.
Some call it too short, but at twice the length I'd probably have given up halfway through.

You most probably know about it, but there's the upcoming Wasteland 2.
As for not-sci-fi but upcoming turn-based & isometric, there is the promising Age of Decadence.

Tychoxi: Man, this is depressing, barely any REAL RPG has been mentioned!
Why can't devs drop the idiot Tolkien ripoffs and create a sci-fi RPG? (Thanks CDProjekt for the "Cyberpunk" project).

Taleroth: Lazy guess is that ripping off Tolkien is easier to do. Your orcs are brutish, if not evil, your elves are proud, and your humans rule the world.

What do you do with sci-fi? You either come up with something original or you just rip off Tolkien again. The scales are also broader, which is why Mass Effect has the concept of a footsoldier finding absurd ways to shoot at Starships with his popgun. When you have a nuclear arsenal, what precise use is a a party of 4?

Not saying it's impossible. Just that it's more work. Creating a totally original setting is nearly required and, at least nowadays, that doesn't fit in with the rush schedules. You can't playtest and plot 2-3 years before you enter production, your deadline is in 11 months, hop to it.
hah, as cynic as I am I honestly think that in most cases it's that devs love these high/low fantasy settings, not that they are lazy or have to rush some crap out of the door (you can rush sci-fi crap as rapidly as fantasy crap). And the problem with ME is that it's a third person shooter and that it got stupid as the sequels went by, being sci-fi doesn't mean you can have some dude defeat a spaceship by shooting his raygun whilst on foot!

I want one too! Especially one that is NOT in a post-apocalyptic world and no magic.

Steampunk, Cyberpunk, Sci-fi, post-modern would all be fine. :)
Does earthbound count? At least it has an alien to go with it.
Sci-Fi isn't really my thing, but I have a lot of fun with the Earth games, and Warhammer: Dawn of War was quite good.

It seems to be some kind of diablo clone in space but you never know, might be fun.

yeah i thought the same
Just something else I thought of: Puzzle Quest Galactrix - for the most part, actually pretty enjoyable. Worth checking out if you're up for some block-matching.

Also, not exactly a space-faring game, but Mr. Robot's a good sci-fi RPG - despite the ending of the game seeming pretty abrupt.
I wonder if people already mentionned yoda stories. It was like a tiny ultima in star wars, minus, uh, everything. But i enjoyed it a lot.

Haha, Yoda Stories - would love to see this one here. IIRC the reception was pretty darn awful (and also here on the forums someone claimed that it was the worst Star Wars product ever) but personally I actually liked it. At first it looked like crap to me but when I got the hang of it I actually enjoyed it a whole lot.
