Cryxo: I tell you, in the UK when there it snows, everything slows down to a halt.
It's @!*$ing ridiculous! In places in Europe it is illegal to not have snow tyres and it is a bloody damn good move.

Navagon: That's because they rarely don't have snow. You can hardly demand people get snow tyres here when there's barely ever any of it.

None the less... I am going to sulk in my corner now.
Beautiful picture.

I remember when we had teh big freeze last january and London ground to a halt for 2 days....
People were complaining how Norway and so on are fine with snow but the UK can't cope with a day of it..
Boris Johnston (mayor of London) responded to critics most eloquently (for him) pointing out that the cost to get London prepared for the snow like in Norway, Finland etc would be outrageous - underheating on roads, massive investment on plows and so on.... For one day of snow a year economically it just didn't make sense...
If we start having the same winters of 20 years ago when I was a kid however (several feet of snow and so on) then perhaps it might be worth it in future. Last I heard on the news we were due to have no zero and sub zero temperatures till mid Jan at least so the snow is likely to stay till around then - even if it is not still actively snowing.

michaelleung: Title says it all. This is so awesome.

Hm. Where did you get that from? (Want to use elsewhere, but have to include source.)
Edit: Never mind. Found it.

Wow, that's a great picture.
I guess things slow down in England because it only snows there usually so they're not used to snow... at all.

El_Caz: That's odd. Why does it look like a piece of land to the left (Ireland i suppose) has some green in it?. It's like the snow only fell on Britain. That or photoshop did. Though I'm not entirely sure if that batch of green is land or the open sea. Don't really know how far Ireland is from Great Britain.

As Andy_Panthro pointed out the snow is hitting the UK first so even though Ireland has actually been colder we haven't been getting anywhere near the amount of snow the UK has. However we have been hit a lot harder with ice resulting in more road accidents. In fact I was not amused to wake up this morning and found the water pipes in the street have frozen. No shower, no tea and no working toilet *sigh*

Damn!
Must be pretty cold there, we've had temperatures below zero for a week or so, with the lowest being around -10 Celsius, and we haven't had anything that bad. Although my heating bill will be amazingly high (I have all electric heating etc. the joys of modern living).
I should probably post a picture of me posing in the sunny park right behind the building I live in, but then you'll start posting pictures of you people skiing and skating and throwing snowballs and not going to work and I'm gonna get all jealous.
No, really, I'd rather take the nine months of rain and three of sunshine we get every year than the kind of weather you guys are getting. Good luck with that and I hope things get better soon.

me too :)
it is interesting how Ireland has no visible snow whatsoever. God just hate British i guess.
Central Minnesota FTW!
We've got at least a foot of snow left over from Christmas, and temperatures have been between 20 and 30 below zero.
I love it! I actually wore shorts and a hot pink t-shirt to school a few weeks ago, of course, it was only about -7 at the time. ;-)

I will take snow over black ice any day of the week.
