lettmon: You're right, that proves that they didn't cheat. NOT.

Pheace: So, is this being implied as cheating anywhere else or is this just you ranting about something you perceive as *proof* of cheating?
Well all the skeleton world knows that russians were cheating, their 'champion' looked like he wanted to disappear out of shame on the pedestal. It just hurts particularly for latvians because our racer Martins Dukurs has been the absolute leader in last 5 years or so and was going for gold in Sochi, but silver now feels like big disappointment for him and everyone else.
There has been a lot of cheating at this years Olympics. This footage from the moguls competition is flat our disturbing.

It's shuffleboard on ice, how hard could that be? :D Oh and you are supposed to be sober when Curling. Being sober while playing shuffleboard is grounds for immediate disqualification.

Being sober while watching Curling is also a severe offense. I usually lament the coverage of the Olympics (Winter and Summer) here in the States because it tends to be skewed toward sports where the U.S. will dominate, but they could have put on something else besides Curling.

Well played sir, well played!
Maybe I'm unemotional, but whats the problem? You haven't been cheated personaly. It's just a guy who happens to come from the same country as you. Or do you have a problem with cheating in general? To that, I could relate.

lettmon: Their leading racer had four identical start times in four races - 4.47 seconds. That is impossible and never happens. Well played Russia! Rot on!
I did not watch that. I have just read that this happened "just" 3 times in a row. It would be interesting to see the official times.

EDIT:

This really happened!

The problem is that he worked 4 years for that gold. As I already wrote he has been the absolute leader in last several years in world cup, his nickname 'Superman' in the skeleton community speaks for itself. Basically he got robbed in Sochi. As for me I just wanted to raise awareness that Russia is still the source of all evil.

Ok, I am curious. Could you talk this through for someone that is not famliar with the sport at all.

Firstly, what is a start time?

Secondly, given that it's an olympic event, and you're competing with the best. Isn't it likely that such start times are going to be tight, and thus your window for start times will be small. What is the likely range of start times?

Thirdly, what was the precision in the start time counter, I thought they went better than 1/10th of a millisecond. Can you get that data?

Fouthly, I'd just like to point out the mistake that it's not impossible, just that you're suggesting it is highly improbable. I'm hoping from discussion we can discern just how improbable that is.

Lastly, if Russia wanted to fake something, given they've got so much resource - wouldn't they do it better?
