Ophelium: Skeleton I get. I had to look up curling last night because that shit just doesn't make sense to me.
JinseiNGC224: When I saw my mother last she asked me what curling was. I didn't have a clue either. But as you probably found out it's nearly 500 years old and started in Scotland as a drinking game (you played and bought each other drinks after a game until you couldn't stand any more). But apparently it's as strategic as chess (according to one article).
I have a feeling the original version had it's merits ;)
I used to play in high school. Pretty technical sport, really. Finesse, and the ability to 'read' the ice are keys to the game. Once you get out there and try it - with some proper instruction and not just throwing the stone down the ice and randomly flapping that broom around - it's more fun and challenging than it looks.
But yeah, it would make for a good drinking game.
Back to the original topic...
These people train over and over for this stuff, and consistency is a big part of the training. Shouldn't that occasionally result in things like this?
Semi-related: I assume from the OP's avatar that he is familiar with racing. In drag racing <insert joke from tinyE> there is a type of race called "bracket racing", where consistency is the determining factor for victory, not outright speed.
The grapes, they are sour.
