Started playing RPG maker games again, especially 2k and 2k3.

Anyone a fan of those games as well?
Not a fan, but i hate them with passion. That count too, right?

No inovation, usually bad story (chosen one from army/magic academy), heavy grind and mainly, no inovation.

I am really sad, when i see that hardware limitations became main characteristics of a game genre.
That takes me back. I've played a few 2k games many, many years ago. It was a wonderful time when I still wasn't sick of the traditional jRPG style. :P
One I remember was A Blurred Line also called The Line Narrows, it had some interesting elements and was widely considered one of the best RPG Maker games. I'm pretty sure it doesn't hold up very well today. :D

Anything in particular you'd recommend?

What's 2k/2k3 game? Or is just a version of the tool

Only RPG maker that I can think of straight away is Space Funeral. Dang that was crazy.
I always had problems with these games. Screen is flickering most of the time. I've read somewhere that you have to turn off the hardware acceleration, but then game runs very slow.

happened to me with 3 or 4 RPG maker games, so i gave up.

Most RPG maker games I played though are just German, not sure you can read it.

Any recommendation for English RPG maker games?
To the Moon is awesome.
Heard that RPG Maker 15 is coming out soon (or is already out).

I think that the game To The Moon was created using RPG Maker, but I can't remember which one though.

Usually I agree, but you must check out the Horror Titles more. They are qualitative vice better than the other titles.

Dreamland R for example. Now that was a feast.
And any game made by Kelven and real Troll. For example Troll's Captain America parody.

Unfortunately German, but heck, just great.
Oh yeah, I just remembered - I had quite a bit of fun with the Laxius Power series - three parts, I believe. There's now a series called Laxius Force by the same author - it's not free, so I haven't played it, obviously. :P
Laxius Power has some dodgy translation woes (the author is French) and some truly horrid hand-drawn artwork, but it was good old old-school fun with a big world to explore.

Also remember guys - RPG Maker is just a set of tools. It might not be uncommon to find something original and remarkable. To the Moon was made with RPG Maker, for example.
(edit: ninja'd about To the Moon, curses)

There's a lot of crap RPG Maker games around but I had a lot of fun playing Eternal Eden

I made one way back in the day. I might find time to dig it up some time and put it up here. It was called The Volcano of Leefe, which then later became Legends of Leefe: The Great Volcano. I turned the game into a Neverwinter Nights PW server and ran that for a few years.

I'm just now starting to learn some Hero Engine stuff. Maybe one day it'll live again.

I periodically put some time into my RPG Maker XP game of my book, The Darkest Wand.
