Im one of probably more people than like the Monarchy that believe they are little more that the countries biggest benefits cheats. Added to that all the crap the Duchy of Cornwall owns and the dodgy tax avoidance crap the prince of wales pulls. Generally I think a lot of people that know the facts dislike the monarchy.

But that is just my opinion.

I think you`re tight. I think majority of a modern-industrial country dislike the monarchy, even a little bit for what they get away with. On the other hand, the monarchy has also given those countries a certain identities, not to mention the collected history of the royal families i Europa that have most certainly influenced each other. Also, more than one of Norway's royal ancestries came from England, f.ex.

I`ve always wondered how much it would impact the economy, culture et al, IF the royal families decided to just take off....This was a hot topic here in Norway not long ago.

Maybe we need a revolution, or at least a new John Locke or a Rousseau to fire the revolution. Technology makes us human lazy and compliant :-)

In all seriousness, maybe we should get them a little credit to put up with all the crap the media and us "normal" give them :P
