Mrstarker: Well, you dismissed a study that looked at portrayal of video characters, because they only looked at pictures and didn't also look at text.
Look at what you wrote here. Look at that. I don't even care about the context - it's not exactly much of a scientific inquiry to ONLY LOOK AT PICTURES in a MAGAZINE that has text DESCRIBING the thing which you are trying to establish the INFLUENCE of. That's like analyzing the societal impact of alcohol by watching a few ads in TV... with the sound off!
Mrstarker: What I'm suggesting is that no amount of effort will ever be good for you, because you don't want to believe there could be things that are wrong with the portrayal of women in video games.
No amount of effort will be good for me, because what you are pushing is bullshit. You can't convincingly prove something which is not true. You are linking me to people with an attitude along the lines of "gamers, rapists - what's the difference?", and then whine that *I* am the one being biased. Sheesh.
Mrstarker: What else did they do apart from asking questions during an interview and publishing articles? If asking questions during interviews is harassment, then all journalists are guilty of that.
You know, we had a guy in parliament who once got the floor and repeatedly asked someone "Is it true that you take bribes?". When the press questioned his allegations, he said "What? Can't you even ask a question? I never claimed anything".
If all you see is RPS guys "asking questions"... Too bad. Look closer.
Mrstarker: Well, I know several women who find female protagonists and supportive characters often difficult to relate to because of the way they are portrayed, but I don't think it's because they need a hug and someone to "set them straight".
I disagree, I'm fairly certain they do need a hug. Who doesn't ;P?
Either way - I hope they get the help they deserve.
