Well, to be fair, the original cover was better. :D

keeveek: Literally judging books by their covers :P

What I meant though, I wonder if the publisher knows the book isn't very good, but they think it will sell for some other reasons, if that means they would invest more money into fancy cover or not.

I know they did something similar in Poland with Metro 2034, which is shitty beyond imagination and much, much shorter than Metro 2033, but they made wider margins, bigger font and shoved empty pages after every chapter so the book appeared just as big as the first part. The price was also the same.

People were screwed by the publisher who sold them a nicely packaged turd.

Oh sure! Publishers will do practically anything to sell more books. I don't think I've ever laughed so hard at a cover as at this. I don't quite remember that scene.
Relevant to the thread at large: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/the-big-picture/4719-Gender-Games
The pictures in this video are all Japanese video game characters. These videos all fail to even mention that. The problem people are having is with Japanese culture. Japan is the biggest maker and consumer of boob warriors. It's not even about video games just look at the way anime and manga is drawn. If you don't want boob warriors your gonna have to socially engineer the entire Asian market into not buying it. I'd say It's a clash of cultures more than anything.

Kinda ironic how narrow minded his views are in a show called "Big picture".

Melhelix: According to the study Sexual abuse in a national survey of adult men and women: prevalence, characteristics, and risk factors done by Finkelhor D, Hotaling G, Lewis IA, and Smith C. in 1990, 1 in 4 women and 1 in 6 men are sexually assaulted before they are 18.
These figures... I just.... How?

Might as well live in an anarchic wasteland, because hey it's not like it can get any worse at this point plus no taxes is pretty sweet.

with these numbers it's not rape anymore, it's a national hobby.

Diablo and Mass Effect books weren't bad, actually.

Don't worry too much, the male statistics don't matter so that cuts down the national average!

Melhelix: Heh, my point was they quite literally slapped a modern cover on The Inferno by Dante Alighieri, from 1314 A.D, part of The Divine Comedy. It was hilarious. It was honestly The Inferno, with nothing changed, nothing added to the poem. How they got away with it is baffling. And if someone picked it up expecting to read about cleaving demon skulls with a massive scythe they would be sorely disappointed. :P
Oh, so they publish Divine comedy in parts? In Poland it's always in one tome, so I assumed it's a boko based on a game, not the original part of Divine Comedy...

Now it's even funnier, thanks :D

btw. to slap EA logo on Dante Alighieri's work... He's probably spinning in his grave :P

Mass Effect books suck monkey balls. I mean, I only read the first one, because I couldn't take it anymore.

The same goes with Dragon Age books. Diablo ones I don't know, they were published around when Baldur's Gate books were publish and they were the worst piece of shit ever created :P

Quick question from someone who's never played the game, does the main character actually go around bare chested with a painted cross and what looks like the result of an accident during olympic ribbon twirling tryouts? He looks like he's trying way too hard to be some super cool Christian version of Kratos.
The whole "debate" over this whole thing summed up in one picture

Crosmando: ... How is that "serious journalism", unless RPS has suddenly rebranded themselves from a game news site to a political advocacy blog without me noticing, they should be asking questions about ~gameplay~. ...
I think they just should ask interesting questions and the question for the reason of overly sexualized content is quite interesting.

You cannot really separate entertainment and politics. Games are always also a social medium and they must reference to the real world somehow and also to matters of politics. Writing about this can interest gamers as well. They will still be a gaming site, even if they would write about the political implications of gaming.

It might not be interesting for everyone but judging by the size of the discussion it actually is quite interesting.

It does highlight the ridiculous double standards of the modern world doesn't it?

It's like those "revenge porn" websites. If a guy puts up a picture of a girl, it's outrageous. If a girl puts up a picture of a guy, all her friends are "You go girl!"
