RPS is syndicated by Valve, so what's surprising with being biased?

Probably because Steam is larger than the rest of the competition combined. That's simply representational coverage. There wouldn't even be PC gaming (on the scale there is today) without Steam. Steam provided a viable means of keeping the PC market alive at a critical point where brick and mortar retailers were abandoning it. That's how it gained its monopoly.

Furthermore, if you actually read the article I linked to, or at least skim it, it shows that they do indeed take a keen interest in the goings on at GOG.

As stated, the reason that they're showing an interest in the game is because the industry is showing an interest in the game. Project Eternity (which coincidentally RPS did an article just about how it was going to be released on GOG). The rights to Torment being bought... There's a lot of speculation and solid grounds for that speculation.

So naturally any developments right now are interesting to gamers. In fact, in a way, it's arrival on Steam is more newsworthy than its appearance on GOG simply because of that.

*facepalms* But the whole newspost is pointless - it's not about them being assholes, it's about how they're clutching at straws when it comes to Steam. THE GAME HASN'T EVEN BEEN RELEASED YET! You can bet once it has, they'll make yet another news post so why not wait until it's actually been released? Can any of you actually say that the article has any use? Except to, once again, promote Steam? Yes, it's coming to Steam so what?

Not sure what you mean... the heading is "Planescape: Torment Heading To Steam?" is this biasd? should it say " Planescape: Torment Heading To Steam? and by the way it has been on gog for 2 years" not as catching...


and in the article, it is a discussion about who owns P:T IP now, and when (or if) it gets on Steam it will be a definite answer... I would like an answer to that question myself... They mention it has been sold here for over 2 years, the only thing I can fault the article for is that the link to gog is broken. I do not see any praise for Steam there at all - exept a throwaway comment that the have "500 gagillion users", and even in that case it is used as a point that the IP needs to be cleared up before it is thrown in front of them... I am not sure who is doing selective reading here.

Not to fuel the flame or anything, but the #1 reason I've heard that people read RPS is for the biased opinions.

It's STILL a non-story Dear lord, how hard is it for you to understand that. They have NO NEWS. It's the equivalent of Fox yapping on and on about something that is about to happen without saying anything - except, like Licurg says, to kiss Steam ass once more. Sure, once it gets a Steam release and they discover something interesting about the publisher, THEN make a news article. The fact that they write a large article based on a mere suggestion really should need no further explanations. Especially since the article doesn't give tell us anything of importance.

So you don't think that maybe the publisher is relevant because, oh I don't know, they and the rest of the internet want to know about a possible sequel? Could it be?

As for GOG getting a tiny article, that was probably in part due to it being one of many similar posts about GOG's D&D releases, coupled with many more Planescape articles that followed. If you want to know just how wrong you seem to me right now then just search their site for Planescape articles.

it is GOOD news. This game needs more distribution. What is wrong with giving the game some more publication.... THE GAME... your focus is only on steam, so this tells more about your bias then RPS, even though it is well know that they have it. I would like an answer to the question they are asking also, it is a good question if Valve are getting P:T on steam. I did also not know that inExile got the P:T license last week. This was a good news story to me. I wanted to thank you for pointing it out, but I guess I should not.

Two years ago, and this article is linked in the one you are talking about. You should get your facts straight before going off on a rant.

I will agree that RPS has been sliding, however, since Quintin Smith left the team. Adam Smith does a great job, but this new guy Nathan Grayson is not good, pushing out weak call to action posts and reviews that miss the point

Sorry TC, but all I see is an interesting article on PS:T, I dont see any bias, It will be nice to see who actually owns it, the nxile thing is a bit scary if they are the people behind Hunted : The Demons Forge.

So, one of the most critical acclaimed games, which has failed sadly commercially, is being released on the biggest videogame distributor on the planet. How is that not good, relevant news?

There are literally millions of Steam users, a good part of which haven't even heard of GOG and maybe only rumors about this game. Bringing this game towards millions of new gamers and advertising the game can only benefit gaming.

Just imagine what commercial draw it would have if this game makes a ruckus on the Steam best seller list. A pipe dream? Maybe. But this is probably my favourite game of all time and I want that everybody plays it to see what we can do. And Steam is the best way to provide that.

RPS is likely biased towards Steam, no question about that. But that is not the strongest bias I smell here.

A lot of people like Steam. It's news for them. Of all the things you could get indignant about, this?

Dear lord, I really expected more of this forum. Do I have to repeat my point a million times over? It's simple - (a) it was a vent, as in, not ment to be a huge deal, that article was just one more example of a non-news item involving Steam and it ticked me off on a bad day. (b) again, for the 10th time, the article says SQUAT except that it's coming to Steam and yet no-one has so far explained to me why they couldn't simply wait for the game to appear on Steam and THEN make a news post since they don't even have a date of release! If it hadn't been available anywhere else, yes it would be interesting news, but it is available on GOG. (c) who says Planescape appearing on Steam is bad? Stop putting words in my mouth - I said that the news post in itself has no use and it doesn't. Informing people that they may find out something interesting in the future is silly. Just wait till you have the interesting news and THEN report it.

In the end, it was just venting my grievance about RPS in general and how they are indeed sliding - especially since game journalism has been sliding pretty badly during the past few years. It's just an example I gave - but there's loads more out there. Heck, how can gaming even be respected if the press is so shoddy, biased and corrupt.
