For a moment I thought it's another part of Iron Man...

Wishbone: Nothing will ever beat Highlander 2 as the worst sequel ever.
avatar
ReynardFox: Close but not quite, the worst sequel ever award goes to Highlander: The Source. If you haven't seen it... please don't, it hurts so, so much more than even Zeist.
Go back and read my reply to the other guy who said the same thing as you ;-)

Oops, missed that. But I maintain that Highlander: The Source really is that bad even on your terms as a downgrade from the previous film/s. It makes Highlander 2 look like high art. It manages to not only suck in every conceivable way as a film, but as a conclusion to the whole series and it's mythos... good lord I don't know where to start. It is simply a complete and total betrayal of everything that came before, it is so insulting to the story and anyone who still cares that it almost seems deliberate.

Maybe to some this might seem like hyperbole, but as far as i'm concerned, this movie is a hatecrime. :p

Well, as far as I'm concerned, the same goes for Highlander 2. I've never seen a sequel completely destroy the story and mythology of the previous movie as thoroughly as that. But I concede that you may be right. I just don't see how it could possibly be as much worse than its predecessor as Highlander 2 was.

Going by IMDB scores, the drop from 1-2 is 7.1-3.9=3.2, while the drop from 4-5 is 4.3-3.1=1.2

Still, the only way for me to truly find out if I agree with your assessment is to actually watch both Endgame and The Source, and I'm not sure I have the stomach for that :-/

Highlander 2 might be ungodly, hatefully bad, but they at least had the good graces to produce a version that retconned the whole Zeist farce. The Source actually answers what the prize they've all been fighting and dying for is, and when you find out, you'll want to grab pitchforks and a lynch mob.

I'd say the safest way to view The Source is to watch internet snarker Spoony's review of it.

I never seen Highlander....

Azilut: I used to think like that. Then I saw Highlander: The Source.

Wishbone: I'll admit I haven't seen it. However, when I say the "worst sequel", I don't mean "the worst movie that happened to be a sequel to another movie", but rather "the sequel which was worst compared to the movie before it". In other words, it matters which movie the sequel came after. Given that Highlander: The Source was the sequel to Highlander: Endgame (which admittedly I also haven't seen, but I've read about it), I cannot believe that it was as much a step down in quality from it's predecessor as Highlander 2 was from Highlander.
That's an odd way to define 'sequel', but on those terms, you're right. The fall from Highlander (awesome) to Highlander 2 (unspeakable atrocity) was farther than the fall from Endgame (very, very, very bad) to The Source (Ye Liveliest Awfulness). But not by as wide a margin as you might think. Specifically, once you've seen both The Quickening and Endgame, you wouldn't think that another highlander movie could still be worse than you could imagine.

It's my guilty pleasure. Terrible acting, low budget production, but I actually enjoy the series.
I was going to post 'I'd buy that for a dollar'

But now I think that might be overpriced.

Highlander has the worst casting in cinema history. But it's still pretty enjoyable.

Hum, from the look of the trailer I would risk saying the famous acid scene won't make an appearance... after all, if they ditched the shooting scene (too bad, the "Someone give this man a hand!" is one of my favourite quotes ever), imagine that one!

However, I would buy this for a dollar! It's just a movie, after all, a new retale of a story, who knows, it might be enjoyable, or even, good!

I also have never seen Conan the Barbarian, Commando, or Original Total Recall.

I have seen Blade Runner and eh I have seen this story before and this line still makes me facepalm:

Decker: "Skinjobs thats what Bryant called Replicants, in the history books he is the kind of cop that calls black people the N word"

....Uh yeah I think I already get it that skinjob is a derogetory word against replicants. Like Prawns are to the Aliens in District 9.

That line sounds like it was part of the horrible narration. I've actually steered well clear of that version, it's a much better movie without it.

With Conan, Commando and Total Recall, expect nothing more than an Arnie action-fest and you should enjoy them.

I eagerly await seeing Conan because I like to see what is considered the king of the 80s Fantasy/Sword and Sorcery genre that were so cheesy at the time, heck the only way to have serious stories in Fantasy back than were making your own story in D&D board games.
