Stevedog13: Well it's a watered down remake of an already excellent film, which is completely unnecessary. The gritty, over the top levels of violence, which represent not only the worst qualities of all people but is also symbolic of the internal struggle of the hero as he tries to sort out what he is within the chaos and confusion of his re-awakening and reprogramming, have been replaced by a teenagers immature idea of existential humanism. Instead of a once living man turned into a machine endeavoring to relearn it's own humanity, we now have a cop who gets badly hurt and needs a prosthetic.
Plus the new suit look like a cross between the costume in The Dark Knight and the one in The Dark Knight Rises.
This new movie is, in a word; superfluous.
Elmofongo: Better safe superfluous generic action flick, than that violent, disgusting piece of shit thats Robocop 2,The butchery of the protaginist himself, and the most bummer, downer, just sad ending ever where OCP is not held accountable after all the blood they have on their hands.
Also you seemed suprised its PG 13 after Robocop 3 was?
I agree that Robocop 2 was an inferior movie in every way, but using that as some sort of justification for a remake would be like saying there should be a remake of Jaws because of how bad Jaws 3 was. If the studio wanted to make money off the Robocop name I would have been more than happy with a digitally restored, possibly 3D re-release in the theaters. Well, as long as they didn't do something real stupid like Kinney shoots first.
Actually I think I'm one of the few people here who isn't complaining about the rating. Then again I also watched the Prime Directives series and thought the story and ideas were not that awful, just the production value. The only time I think Robocop was ruined by a rating was on the TV show, not the 2 cartoon series but the actual live action series. He was not allowed to actually shoot anyone, instead he threw smoke pellets and then shot the chain on a chandelier so that it fell on the bad guys. Utterly lame.
