Holder? Holder?! HOLDEEEEEEER!
Apart from that, it reeks with PG13.
Looked at the trailer and does not appeal to me. Loved the original robocop as had great story, the acting was solid and the film did not shy from violence and considering the way it was showing the future it had to be hard hitting, I found the 2nd film enjoyable no where near as good as 1 but it had its own charm. After that i gave up the 3rd movie was poor in almost every way and you could tell the budget was not there especially the battle between the cops and the splatter punks near the end so few cars and police it was like the detroit police had been reduced to a dozen men.

I wish hollywood would stop with the reboots its a lazy way of trying to get money from the original films also making it a teen friendly film is not how i see robocop but well who am i to argue with some high powered ties with a lot more money than sense,
I don't think I will buy this for a dollar.
Expected bullcrap, got a ton of shit-flavored bullcrap. The original Robocop was something with a soul - thanks to directing, above all - this "remake" is just another hollywood piece of rotting feces.

I hope Hollywood will sink asap, at this point in time there is no single reason an industry based on eternal chewing its old properties should survive its memories. Burn, hollywood, burn: you disgust me.
Aww the original was a kind of triumph for the Dutch.
I suppose we could've seen this coming, what with how Hollywood is constantly remaking movies.
MVP!

Remakes and reboots are nothing new, The Fly and The Thing were both remakes and they are both vastly superior products than the original ones.

Now, the newer The Thing remake/reboot/prequel thing, that was unnecessary but eh.

Jose Padilha is not a bad director, but I am really wary about this. Hopefully it will at least be AWARE of things, even if it is not as biting as the original one was (which is as relevant these days as it ever was).

Not excited about it though. I wish I could be, but I cannot be excited for it.

DaCostaBR: The man said he never wants to work in Hollywood again. That for every ten ideas he'd have, 9 would be immediately shot down and he'd have to fight like hell to include the last one. That indicates it's not really his movie, not like his previous work (with the freedom he had) was. That does not bode well for this movie.
Oh, that sucks... I didn't know.
I thought "well, he's good with violence and drama involving cops", but now...
What's pretty evident is, that they aren't going with Verhovens modern Jesus analogy. The angle they got now, can Murphy still function as a family man after he's been altered to be a cybrog, can work, but I don't see it as interesting subject matter. Unless he has a vibrator upgrade.
What I liked most about the original was all the backstabbing going on at OCP, it's where EA based their working ethics upon, or was it the other way around. =D
For some reason this trailer reminded me of the Total Recall remake, which interestingly enough was a remake of another Verhoeven directed movie.

I'll go see it, but my expectations are low, hopefully there's a lot of good stuff that they're just not showing in the trailer (for me a big part of robocop was the satire of corporate control over everything including the government and population).

I don't actually count these as remakes since both were originally short stories. It's more like two different films based on the same source material. I know it's propably just semantics on my part but I don't have a problem with Hollywood doing this. So a new Total Recall, True Grit, Starship Troopers or Wizard of Oz doesn't bother me.

Total Recall was interesting. It was very clearly nothing like the original but it had enough to stand on it's own I thought. It will never be a classic by any sense but it was a good bit of fun.

grviper: There were also RoboCop games. Like the one from the dev of Superman 64

amok: Robocop 3D for Amiga was very underrated though - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vYFdgyuv6fU
I played it (and liked it) on PC, which apparently had better graphics and animation too:

That PC video has pretty poor music as it is using Adlib/Soundblaster. Fortunately the PC version supported also Roland MT-32, which sounded much better.

Elmofongo: I don't get the hate for this reboot, the Robocop franchise suffered with Robocop 2, worse movie of the series heck I thought Robocop 3 was slightly better than 2. This new movie just cannot be worse than 2.

timppu: No Verhoeven as the director, no (good) Robocop movie. As simple as that. That's the main reason why also Robocop 2 and 3 failed so miserably. Sure they tried to copy the elements that made the first movie so great (mainly the dark humor, and the drama of human identity), but failed.

According to the trailer, this remake is lacking the dark humor etc. from the first movie, and is more like a straight action movie. But then it wouldn't be the first time trailer doesn't tell the whole truth. And it seems to have quite many big name actors in it.

I just recalled that I haven't even seen the Total Recall remake yet! It is out already, right?

So, when are we getting a Terminator remake? You know, of the very first movie? I presume one is in the making. Terminator 2 didn't actually suck as it had the same director as the first movie.

darthspudius: I dread to think how you came to that conclusion. Robocop 3 is easily one of the worst sequels ever made.

timppu: I agree with the former writer that Robocop 3 is slighly better than 2. But that doesn't say much, as 2 was so very very poor. They were both quite bad movies.
I just think Robocop 3 is watchable at least and its just dumb fun action and at least Robocop in 3 did not turned stupid like he did in 2 (way to pussify the protaginist) Also I get a chuckle at," Its time to show how real cops kick ass"

Also I never wanted the new Robocop to be like this, I am just saying that given the choice at what I have I take this new movie over that horror thats Robocop 2.
