DaCostaBR: The man said he never wants to work in Hollywood again. That for every ten ideas he'd have, 9 would be immediately shot down and he'd have to fight like hell to include the last one. That indicates it's not really his movie, not like his previous work (with the freedom he had) was. That does not bode well for this movie.
I heard about that. The trailer was still pretty decent, though.

Exactly.

Elmofongo: I don't get the hate for this reboot, the Robocop franchise suffered with Robocop 2, worse movie of the series heck I thought Robocop 3 was slightly better than 2. This new movie just cannot be worse than 2.
I dread to think how you came to that conclusion. Robocop 3 is easily one of the worst sequels ever made.

No Verhoeven as the director, no (good) Robocop movie. As simple as that. That's the main reason why also Robocop 2 and 3 failed so miserably. Sure they tried to copy the elements that made the first movie so great (mainly the dark humor, and the drama of human identity), but failed.

According to the trailer, this remake is lacking the dark humor etc. from the first movie, and is more like a straight action movie. But then it wouldn't be the first time trailer doesn't tell the whole truth. And it seems to have quite many big name actors in it.

I just recalled that I haven't even seen the Total Recall remake yet! It is out already, right?

So, when are we getting a Terminator remake? You know, of the very first movie? I presume one is in the making. Terminator 2 didn't actually suck as it had the same director as the first movie.

I agree with the former writer that Robocop 3 is slighly better than 2. But that doesn't say much, as 2 was so very very poor. They were both quite bad movies.

I thought the trailer looked like fun, that evil bad word that movies aren't allowed to be. Senseless, pointless FUN!

I'm not in it to cry about comparisons, I just want a bit of fun. It looks like it will deliver on that.

Nothing will ever beat Highlander 2 as the worst sequel ever.

Heh. All this talk about Robocop 2, and I barely remember that movie. At least it had one good scene in which that one prototype went nuts and shot itself. Interestingly enough there seems to be no clip of that scene on the interwebs. Hm.

Anyway, back to this new... thing. As some have already mentioned, it just looks to sleek and, well, tame in comparison to the original. I'm not opposed to them mixing things up a bit story-wise, but what was shown in the trailer doesn't totally excite me. Maybe worth a rental, but that's it.

Speaking of reboots, I still need to check out Total Recall just because. Dredd was the only recent one I thought was great. I don't know whether you could call that a reboot though. *shrug* Too bad they kind of shot themselves in the foot by releasing it as 3D-only in most theaters. Without that it probably would have done a lot better. Oh well.

It's actually been out on DVD for a little while. You may crawl back under your rock now. =P

Considerng it's PG-13 I wonder if the future nightmare version of Detroit would be actually better then the current situation.

As bad as it was, I still quite enjoy that one. Silly early 90's at it's finest!

Azrael360: Damn! This doesn't look like RoboCop at all! (>_<)
It looks too soft, too sterile... like a movie made for TV!

Where's the Frank Miller's vibe & touch...?! (>_<)

Luisfius: Frank Miller sucked at Robocop. Basically what I am saying is it needs Verhoeven's touch.
I meant as a writer for the films and comics... (:P), they were very similar to the "The Dark Knight Returns" visual novel.

But you're right, the first film was the best: script well written & great direction. The mature elements introduced in that film (corruption, capitalism, humanism, identity... etc.) in that violent Detroit, were poorly adapted later, and almost at a cartoonist / family comedy level in the third film and in the TV series (the one with the actors, not the animated cartoon series for kids... that was terrible).

The quality of the RoboCop films&series went downhill starting from the second movie with that void and unresolved ending (although I didn't think the movie was bad, it just had a poor last half that ended bad), and especially noticeable in the third movie: bad story with a terrible acting. The TV series was just boring and bland.

But this new reboot, it's just... facepalm inducing... Everything that had to be good or perfect, is wrong (-_-)

Lol, what a joke. It's just another super hero movie cashing in on an old name.
The special effects for Robo vs enemies looked very... videogamish. And the new suit looks like a crossover of Dark Knight and Mass Effect armours. Other than that, I think everything that could be said has been said.

Stevedog13: The only time I think Robocop was ruined by a rating was on the TV show, not the 2 cartoon series but the actual live action series. He was not allowed to actually shoot anyone, instead he threw smoke pellets and then shot the chain on a chandelier so that it fell on the bad guys. Utterly lame.
I barely remember that show, I think Blu Mankuma was in it?
What made the first robocop work was the satirical "I made the modern america's Jesus Christ" angle. Without it I fear it may just become another action film, maybe a good action film, but still.... I do not think anyone has the guts to do now what Verhoeven set up to do back then, I just do not see it happen.

Mr.Frost: I wasn't really hoping much from this one...

Seems like another bland 'Teen Friendly' action movie.
Pretty much my thoughts as well. I think the best we can expect from this is nice, but forgettable.
There were also RoboCop games. Like the one from the dev of Superman 64
