I can for one simple reason, and it has nothing to do with Verhoven's satirical and bloody original- Hollywood is going soft so they can catch the largest audience. Have you noticed how many mainstream movies are directed at teens? It's fucking ridiculous. This should have been ruthless and with enough smarts to appeal to adults, but I'm doubting that will be the case.

Stevedog13: Well it's a watered down remake of an already excellent film, which is completely unnecessary. The gritty, over the top levels of violence, which represent not only the worst qualities of all people but is also symbolic of the internal struggle of the hero as he tries to sort out what he is within the chaos and confusion of his re-awakening and reprogramming, have been replaced by a teenagers immature idea of existential humanism. Instead of a once living man turned into a machine endeavoring to relearn it's own humanity, we now have a cop who gets badly hurt and needs a prosthetic.
Well said, and a sure sign that the studio just doesn't get it.

Directed at teens? How, exactly? So an adult can't enjoy a movie supposedly directed at teens, like, for example, Marvel Avengers or LOTR?

The rating doesn't determine the quality of a movie. I don't care if a movie is rated E, PG-13, or R, i just care if it's worth it or not. And right now there is no way to judge this remake since it hasn't even been released yet.

A few weeks ago i watched The Puss in Boots and i enjoyed it a lot, even though it's a kid-friendly movie. What's the problem with that? Am i a terrible human being for enjoying a movie directed at kids?

That looked horrible. Just from that trailer I can already tell this is going to lack the uniqueness of the first film. They even changed the way he ends up becoming the man in the suit. You felt really sorry for Alex Murphy in the original film. His whole life gone, stripped away, to subsist on goop.

How he died was shocking, literally shot to pieces. This re-imaging, a car bomb. How original.

They need to stop trying to update classic films like RoboCop for the entitlement generation. Get you own damn stories.

The trailer is pap.

Maybe the film will be more interesting, with some decent struggle between man and his masters for the control of his own body. I'm not hopeful, though. I don't think I'll be able to watch the film patiently.

Too bad about Kenny, eh?

The man said he never wants to work in Hollywood again. That for every ten ideas he'd have, 9 would be immediately shot down and he'd have to fight like hell to include the last one. That indicates it's not really his movie, not like his previous work (with the freedom he had) was. That does not bode well for this movie.

[Trailer Spoilers] Uff, will have to disconnect what I remember of Robocop and watch this as a seperate entity because this looks incredibly different. No extremely violent murder of Murphy but a car bomb ... , his wife knowing right from the start ... , "let's go with black" ... what? xD

It's like this because the first one was basically a dystopian future and the whole movie talked about dehumanizing people in different ways.

This one seems more like the easy way out with the whole human vs machine trope, only that in this case the human and the machine share the same body. Think of it as a subset of the views shown in the original movie.

Well, they want to make it be consumed with more ease compared to the originals. As much as I hate this phrase, it looks like a dumbed down version of the original, but most remakes are like that.

to be honest: It looks better then I feared. Still not sold though but at least the black suit didn't look as horrible as it did in pictures. Not a great trailer though, luckily ED-209!

I just wish he would make movies like this again. I would love a sequel to starship troopers (or showgirls ;) )
(a real sequel, I can't imagine the straigt to dvd ones are worth my time)

Frank Miller sucked at Robocop. Basically what I am saying is it needs Verhoeven's touch.
