Long Live Gothic 2!

ovoon: It's like Gothic 1 and 2... but better.
I'd disagree with that. The first half of the game is arguably better indeed, but the 2nd half is a boring dugeon crawler.

I can understand people having different opinions on different segments... But in Risen literally the entire second half is a bore.

I played a little bit of Two Worlds I but it didn't run well enough on my laptop so had to leave it. Will definitely try again on my desktop. I played about an hour of TW II and found it too console-y for my taste (I can't stand console ports).

Two worlds is more of a lower budget attempt at Oblivion. There are some nice features like the combining items, then there are some criticisms such as the poor acting and plot. Personally I quite enjoyed it, but you just need to look at the debate in the forum to see that opinion is heavily divided between liking it and hating it.
Risen is almost like Gothic++

So, basically, "Gothic with classes"? XD

And arrays!
Risen is a continuation of the Gothic series. Same people who developed the Gothic games, game plays out the same way with the same formula.
It's sort of an amalgamation of Gothic 1 and 2 thematically/story wise and heavily streamlined. Overall, though, the game is shorter (maybe 25 hours), fairly linear once you get to act two or three, has a terrible final boss, and mages are once again fairly awkward/poorly designed.

Why do you think I've beaten the first half 20 times?

Gothic to me was too dated to be playable. The controls are atrocious, the visuals are ugly as sin, the story isn't nearly as intriguing, and the combat isn't very good. But in concept it's amazing, and Risen is exactly what I saw what Gothic COULD have been.

Maybe if I had played Gothic when it came out or something, but it really doesn't stand the test of time.

I think that it more than does, but then again, I first played them both when they were released.
