Kuchenschlachter: i don't get it. does that mean in the past the steam version still had tages and now tages will be removed from it.
well, isn't there still steam in the steam version? i wouldn't call that drm-free.
They are also taking Tages out of other versions, such as Amazon's. I think we can expect it to be taken out of GamersGate's version as well, maybe a patch for retail?

a patch would be awsome, but i'm rather incredulous after the monthes of shitstorm at world of players about risen 2 and steamworks.
it didn't seem like deep silver would care but might be related to some clauses in their contract with valve...

be that as it may, i'll consider it as a good sign if they'll remove drm from r1 they migth someday do the same for r2 and i can play it. :)
My interest in Risen has risen suddenly at this news..
Does any DRM-free site sell it digitally, or do all the versions still have the distributor-DRM (e.g. Steam)? Amazon does not count as their offers don't cover north Europe as far as I can tell, they seem quite US/UK centric.
Here's hoping for a retail version of that patch. That said, virtually any patch should work given that it's making the game DRM-free.

just as peoples interest in Divinity 2 spiked after the no-DRM patch. I don't have a source, it just stands to logic (and an observed positive reaction on these forums) that the game saw a sudden increase in purchases.

between knowing that I would not have any DRM conflicts or headaches and the game going on sale at the same time, it was an instant buy for me after years of putting it off despite wanting the game ... I have less interest in Risen, but I still would probably snatch it up if they would drop the price a bit more than $20 ($10 or $15 maybe, but the game is simply not worth what they are asking for it).
Maybe Deep Silver is coming to GOG ?

http://www.gamersgate.com/DD-RISEN/risen

but it's still $29.99, no sale here and it still lists Tages as the DRM.

I'm guessing it will be a little while before the DRM patch gets all the way out.

I'm pretty confident that it will go on sale again shortly before Risen 2 gets released.
Good timing as i just traded for a copy for myself :)

DarrkPhoenix: The retail version never had any activations to begin with (at least not the one that I got). Disc check only.

Titanium: I can confirm this for Europe, too.
Third confirmation: U.S. retail version, disc check only.

Also: Disappointing to read that Risen 2 will require Steam. I won't be purchasing it.

In my case it has me excited since then hopefully it gets sold on GMG and I can just buy it with my credit there

DarrkPhoenix: Too bad they're still going with Steamworks for Risen 2.
Aw fudge =(

I have 2 copies of Risen just to show my support for the devs (one on GG, one retail), but sad to hear about Risen 2 and Steamworks. Will probably just buy it off GMG too.
3 days ago there was a patch removing the 3rd party drm from the steamversion of risen. so far nothing about a patch for retail.

Retail had only a disc check.
