A quote from an Amazon representative:
Additionally, as I wrote this response, a member of our technical team dropped by and let me know that Risen will be back on sale today, as a DRM free solution. Everyone who has already downloaded the TAGES version should be able to access their Games and Software Library and re-download the DRM free version at your convenience (once everything is complete). I will update the thread once this change is live. As for putting the game back on promotional pricing, I can tell you it is something we'll be discussing but don't have any solid announcements around right now as we just got it back on sale.
Then they replied to an Steam user:
We've also sent a DRM free version to Valve for the Steam version, but it may take another week or so for them to update the code. Soon Risen will be Tages/DRM free there as well.
Found all of this here: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2444811

Great news for those of us who were not buying it due to stupid activation limits!

Don't see why you would not have bought it for the activation limits anyway. They reset after every 30 days or something. Anyway, great news everyone!
Too bad they're still going with Steamworks for Risen 2.

this!

I'm guessing that this has something to do with Divinity 2 dropping it's DRM and getting a major spike in sales.

Hopefully the GamersGate version will become DRM free as well!

That was only valid for the retail version, AFAIK. It's great not having to worry about that anymore.

Where can I read about that?

Oh, do you have a link for that? That could be very useful info for certain discussions. :)

I've got the Steam version and it's the same thing.
Bad timing, by the time this takes effect I'll be without a computer that's powerful enough to run it. Does look cool though.

Are you sure? A thread on the Steam forums found that you had to contact them to get more activations.

Well, it's in the past now, anyway =)

The retail version never had any activations to begin with (at least not the one that I got). Disc check only.

I can confirm this for Europe, too.

Well, I reinstalled Risen a couple of months ago and that's what Tages said when I read the terms.
i don't get it. does that mean in the past the steam version still had tages and now tages will be removed from it.
well, isn't there still steam in the steam version? i wouldn't call that drm-free.
