Risen was an amazing RPG if you ask me (on PC anyway).

The sequel is now official and has a cool pirate theme with very vibrant design. Check it out here: http://www.risen2.com/

Yay!
Thanks for sharing that. Certainly looks interesting.

Let's hope it ends up a better game than Risen. Not that there was much wrong with it. Mostly just the end battle. Just my opinion, of course.

Wonder where they will go with the pirate theme, though.

More like last 1/4 of the game. But the first 3/4 more than made up for it. I'm thinking they'll not disappoint us, at least not if we keep our expectations logically low. This isn't Skyrim budged we're talking about, after all.
I hope they continue to improve their game as far as combat is concerned. Other than that if it meets Risen's quality then I'll be happy.
i hope they add some more critters and get rid of the retarded ones (seagulls and gnomes, mostly), it was kind of disappointing to discover that you already met all enemies halfway through the game.

I liked those little guys. Especially when I used fire on them. Come on, their fish-throwing skills should be commended upon.

Hope you like it. It's a fine game but you need to get a hang of it. It might be a bit confusing at first, but other than that it's full of interesting experiences.

Agree with you there.

Seems like an interesting direction to take the game.. guess we'll have to wait and see how it goes.

The only real issue I had with the combat in Risen was the difficulty involved in dealing with groups of enemies.. I mean it makes sense that you'd get wiped out by a tribe of ogres, but it shouldn't happen due to a targeting issue.
Risen is one of the finest RPGs I've ever played. Can't wait.
Yes, the story and gameplay got unbelievably lame toward the end. Kind of like all the gothics, so it was what I was expecting, but still, I'd like to see them learn to take it up to 11 near the end to leave us with a better lasting impression. The

I've always been of the opposite opinion about combat in these games. It's not spectacular, but it gets the job done, and it's really more about character strength than player skill. The game is balanced such that it works, if you are struggling to kill something, its more likely that your not a high enough level than that the combat system is messed up. Groups is the same way. I can usually take on a group of about 3 enemies if they are all a few levels below me, and it wasnt long before I was just running into wolf packs and cleaning them up. But if you have to work to take down a single enemy, a group of them is going to kill you.

You made a good point about targetting though. The combat would feel much better if it were more like zelda, where the targeting is to help you aim, while the damage is calculated based on where your sword actually hits. This is probably the main issue people have with gothic/risen combat, though as I mentioned above, I feel the games are well balanced around this system.
Sweet!

I really, really liked Risen, just a really solid game on all fronts.
The screenshots look absolutely beautiful. I attached them below.

YES! I can't wait!
Definitely will be keeping an eye on this one. Risen managed to really capture the spirit of the first two Gothic games, and I'm really hoping that spirit is continued in Risen 2 (it seems like PB's split with JoWood is one of the best things to happen to them).
